In a troubling incident, two National Guard troops were shot in Washington D.C. on November 26, very close to the White House. The attack happened in broad daylight, just steps away from the Farragut West Metro Station, leaving both soldiers in critical condition. President Trump didn’t hold back in describing the event as an ‘act of evil’ and pledged an increase in security.
The suspect, identified as an Afghan national, has already been apprehended by D.C. police. Following the shooting, Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth shared that Trump has ordered 500 additional National Guard members to be deployed in the city. He emphasized that such violence, occurring so near to the heart of the nation, is unacceptable.
Reacting to the events, Fox News contributor Ted Williams voiced strong criticism on The Ingraham Angle, questioning Trump’s decision to increase troop presence. Williams’ main point of concern was steering clear of the political divide: “We have two National Guardsmen who are victims here. Why are we continuing down this path of increasing military presence?” he passionately asked.
Williams further expressed worry for the troops’ wellbeing, stating, “The sad reality is they are on edge as their fellow soldiers have fallen victim to this violence. We need to stop this and approach this situation wisely to prevent any more tragedies like Kent State.”
In contrast, host Jason Chaffetz supported the president’s response, insisting that the National Guard is a positive force. “They are the good guys here,” he retorted as Williams tried to convey his concerns. Chaffetz argued the necessity of maintaining a strong security presence to ensure public safety amid rising crime rates in the capital.
As the discussion intensified, Williams tried to counter, stating, “The National Guard isn’t equipped nor trained for law enforcement. We don’t need to muddle this up with politics. Let’s focus on the health and recovery of those who got hurt. We must understand the motives behind such unjust acts in our city.” Chaffetz, however, reaffirmed his stance, highlighting the benefits of reinforcing security in an area with a declining crime rate.
A harrowing map was released, illustrating the shooting’s proximity to the White House, sending further shockwaves through the community, reflecting the dire need for discussions around public safety and security measures in the nation’s capital.
