Trump’s Age Defense: Is It Backfiring?

Donald Trump’s recent outspoken defense of his age and health on Truth Social seems to have backfired, according to expert analysis. Hayes Brown, a journalist and political commentator, shared his insights on MSNOW this past weekend, noting a potential “chaotic and unprecedented” scenario that Democrats might leverage moving forward.

During the segment, host inquiries led Brown to reflect on a New York Times article that discussed Trump’s age. The critical question posed was about Trump’s defenses against accusations associated with his aging: “You say all this does is prove the point. How so?”

Brown responded with an insightful perspective, stating, “If you’re nearing 80 and refuse to acknowledge your aging process—like admitting that you’re slowing down or that certain tasks take you longer—you risk damaging your credibility.”

He elaborated on the narrative Trump conveys to his supporters: “He cultivates an image of invincibility, portraying himself as eternally powerful, and that trumped-up sense of masculinity. But always running from aging undermines that narrative. Ignoring it won’t make it disappear; aging is an undeniable reality. In our society, there’s often a glorification of youth, while aging remains a sensitive subject. We tend to focus on vigor and strength, avoiding the harsh realities of aging altogether.”

Brown connected the dots, suggesting that Trump’s attempt to gloss over significant age-related issues might actually create a “Streisand effect ” for him. “In trying to dismiss the narrative that he’s aging, he’s only drawing more focus to it. It’s like the more he attempts to deny it, the more attention it garners, right?” Brown explained passionately on Saturday.
