Discovering the True Composition of the Moon: It’s Not Cheesey!

As kids, we often got spun tales full of fantastical ideas—like the moon being crafted from cheese. Well, here’s the reality check: that’s not the case!

New research has confirmed that our moon is hiding something solid at its core, and definitely not dairy-based. Surprise, surprise!

Scientists have determined that the moon’s interior resembles a solid sphere with a density comparable to iron itself.

A team led by astronomer Arthur Briaud expressed, “Our findings raise questions about the evolution of the moon’s magnetic field. This discovery of the inner core also supports a theory about how the lunar mantle could have undergone complete overturn—giving us fresh insights into the timeline of celestial bombardment during the solar system’s formative billion years.”

Interestingly, researchers are using seismic waves triggered by moonquakes to better understand the materials lurking beneath the lunar surface.

They’re hopeful that this breakthrough could deepen our understanding of not only the moon’s history but also the broader story of our solar system.

In other news from beyond, fashion house Prada is teaming up with NASA to create sleek new space suits for upcoming lunar missions!

The Artemis III mission will mark humanity’s return to the moon after Apollo 17 in 1972, with design experts from Prada working collaboratively with Axiom Space engineers to innovate those suits.

Mike Suffredini, the CEO of Axiom Space, mentioned: “We’re continuing NASA’s groundbreaking work by creating a modern suits that will keep astronauts safe and functional on the lunar surface.”

He added, “The Artemis III suits will be robust enough to handle the complex conditions of the moon’s south pole, helping us expand our knowledge and establish a lasting human presence there.”
