The Snapdragon Summit is in full swing, and fans are buzzing about the imminent launch of the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5. However, a major announcement has just dropped from Hawaii: Google and Qualcomm are set to create fully functional Android PCs!

Although we’ve seen some modified versions of Android run on select PCs in China, this new venture promises to be something truly groundbreaking.

Google and Qualcomm Unite to Develop Android for PCs

Speaking at the event, Qualcomm’s CEO Cristiano Amon expressed his excitement about a new Android iteration specifically designed for PCs, stating, “I can’t wait to have one.” This was confirmed during a discussion with Rick Osterloh, the head of platforms and devices at Google.

Aosterloh explained, “Previously, we’ve always had distinct systems for PCs and smartphones. Now, we’re working to merge these technologies.” He further elaborated, “Together with Qualcomm, we are developing a unified technical foundation for our products aimed at desktops and PCs.”

In addition, Osterloh confirmed that Google aims to integrate Gemini and the entire suite of Android AI technologies into these computers. He expressed optimism that this collaboration will benefit “all applications and the developer community,” stating, “This is a huge step towards Android being relevant across all computing platforms.”

With evident excitement, Amon highlighted the thrilling nature of this project, remarking, “I’ve seen it, and it’s amazing. It truly embodies the vision of merging mobile and PC experiences.”

Building on Google’s Previous Announcement of Android & ChromeOS Integration

We weren’t completely blindsided by this news since back in July, Google hinted at the merging of ChromeOS and Android. As we await the final product, it’s clear substantial progress is already being made.
