Xiaomi 17 Series & Xiaomi 15T Full Camera Specs Revealed with Some Surprising Downgrades

The Xiaomi 17 series just made its big debut in China, and right on its heels, the Xiaomi 15T arrived too. Recently, some juicy leaks disclosed the camera specifications for all four models — and there’s a lot to unpack here. As it turns out, while the 15T simplifies last year’s flagship lineup, the new 17 models include some eye-opening downgrades. Let’s break it down.

Xiaomi 17

According to insider Sudhanshu Ambhore, the standard Xiaomi 17 packs a 50MP Light Hunter 950 camera as its main shooter, keeping the same sensor size as last year’s Xiaomi 15, which used a 50MP Light Fusion 900.

When it comes to the telephoto lens, both phones have a 2.6x image zoom option. However, the ultra-wide angle camera on the Xiaomi 15 is more substantial at 1/2.76-inch with a Samsung ISOCELL JN1 lens, dwarfed by the Xiaomi 17’s slightly smaller 1/2.88 inch 50MP OV50M sensor. On the front side, it’s a similar story—the Xiaomi 17 continues the 50MP OV50M sensor, a bump up from the Xiaomi 15’s 32MP OV32B selfie cam, which was just 1/3.14-inch.

Xiaomi 17 Pro & Xiaomi 17 Pro Max

All major upgrades are gracefully mirrored in the 17 Pro models, which generally feature the same camera setup except for the periscope telephoto lens variant. Both options boast a substantial 50MP light Hunter A950L as the main cam, leveled with noted competitors like the iPhone 17 Pro, Galaxy S25 Ultra, and Pixel 10 Pro. Interestingly, the Pro Max variant is enhanced further with a larger 1/1.95-inch ISOCELL GN8 allowing for a 5x zoom.

The Pro retains its slightly smaller JN5 telephoto camera but still offers that 5x optical zoom. All adaptations across the entire 17 lineup appear to incorporate the same ultra-wide-angle and selfie snappers—specifically, the 50MP OmniVision OV50M sensor.

Xiaomi 15T Series

Now let’s pivot towards the Xiaomi 15T series, which aims at budget-conscious buyers wanting flagship features. The base model of 15T rolls out with a 1/1.55-inch OVX8000 sensor, while the pricier 15T Pro makes the leap to a 1/1.31-inch OVX9100. Both sensors are 50MP but the Pro version essentially mirrors last year’s Xiaomi 15 top model. When it comes to scaffolding for ultra-wide shots, these models use a 12MP OV13B sensor.

Just like the primary cameras, the telephoto options differ as well—the 15T Pro has an adjustable 5x optical zoom powered by its Samsung JN5 lens, while the 15T version tops out at a modest 2x zoom. Both gadgets flaunt a 32MP Samsung S5KKDS as their selfie camera.

Your Quick Takeaway

While some folks are labeling these choices as straight downgrades, that’s not exactly a fair critique. Thanks to the improved ISP featured in the latest Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 and enhanced camera tuning, there’s potential for better output in these newer models. Tools like hardware coupled with smart software optimization definitely cause ripple effects on the user experience. As we know, trade-offs happen when brands seek innovation, and that might explain the new rear display on the Xiaomi 17 Pros.
