Heads up, Copilot Users: WhatsApp Support Ends January 2026

Estimated read time 2 min read

Hey there, fellow tech enthusiasts! Just wanted to drop some important news heading our way: if you’re using Copilot AI for WhatsApp, you might want to start looking for alternatives. Mark your calendars because January 15, 2026, is the date when WhatsApp will cut support for chatbots like Copilot and OpenAI’s ChatGPT.

Why is this happening? Well, it’s all in response to Meta’s new platform policies that prohibit LLM chatbots from using WhatsApp’s system. This means that you won’t be able to access Copilot directly from the app anymore, which is a bummer considering how handy it has been since its debut on WhatsApp in late 2024, designed to help users in a familiar setup.

Microsoft has been all in on generative AI, especially after joining forces with OpenAI. Their Copilot has been seamlessly integrated into Windows 11, aiming to enhance the overall user experience—though opinions on its usefulness versus being just excess baggage are still mixed among users.

A Meta spokesperson told TechCrunch that the WhatsApp Business API was intended to help businesses offer better customer support and share meaningful updates. They seem to be shifting their focus to support the vast number of businesses developing on WhatsApp rather than allowing third-party AI tools to join the party.

For folks who love using Copilot, not all is lost! Microsoft says you can still access it using Windows, the web, or their mobile app on both Android and iOS. So while we’ll miss that WhatsApp integration, it’s cool that there are still ways to keep using the bot across other platforms.
