Kia has officially introduced the hatchback variant of its EV4, a move that aims to enrich its electric vehicle range with a compact and modern option. Designed for city driving, this hatch focuses on delivering the perks of space, efficiency, and cutting-edge tech without sacrificing that awesome Kia flair we’ve come to expect.
Manufactured in Slovakia, the EV4 hatch features a comfortable 2,820-mm (111-inch) wheelbase, which offers impressive room inside despite being 300 mm shorter than its sedan counterpart. While cargo space decreases by about 55 liters (1.9 cubic feet), the hatchback still stands out with remarkable efficiency, boasting an aerodynamic drag coefficient of just 0.27. This ensures it performs superbly whether you’re commuting or taking longer trips.
What about tech? The EV4 hatch doesn’t disappoint. It comes packed with features like vehicle-to-load (V2L) and vehicle-to-grid (V2G) functionality, a handy AI Assistant powered by ChatGPT, and a robust set of driver-assistance technologies such as adaptive cruise control and lane-keeping assistance. You can even count on over-the-air updates to keep things fresh. Plus, the GT-Line trim adds unique wheels, a sporty three-spoke steering wheel, and enhanced seats that provide a whole new level of driving enjoyment.
Choose between two battery sizes—58.3 kWh and 81.4 kWh—with estimated ranges of up to 410 kilometers (255 miles) and 612 kilometers (380 miles), respectively. Both versions are powered by a 204-horsepower front motor, making for a swift ride that goes from 0 to 100 km/h (62 mph) in around 7.4 to 7.7 seconds, depending on your choice of setup.
While this hatchback won’t be available in South Korea, it’s aimed directly at rivals like the Volkswagen ID.3 and the eagerly anticipated compact from Tesla in the European and US markets. By merging high-end design, state-of-the-art technology, and bold performance, Kia is gearing up to make a strong statement in the highly competitive electric hatchback landscape.
