Yet another billionaire has carved his niche into the online information game, and this time it’s Larry Ellison of Oracle. The NY Times reports that at 81 years old, Ellison’s firm will be in charge of safeguarding American data while watching over TikTok’s algorithm for updates and tweaks.
Oracle’s next move includes pouring cash into the American version of TikTok. Plus, whispers are circling about media tycoon Rupert Murdoch and his son Lachlan possibly jumping on board with an investment through Fox Corporation, shared a source close to the situation.
The control of social media falls into the hands of some of the richest individuals on the planet—Ellison ($393 billion), Musk ($429 billion), and Zuckerberg ($269 billion). Just as Jon Stewart so aptly noted, social media has become akin to highly processed media, designed to keep billions hooked for their daily doses of news and social interaction.
