Meet the Newest Billionaires From the AI Coding World

Estimated read time 2 min read

Cursor, the go-to platform for AI-centric coding, is making waves with a valuation soaring to close to $30 billion following a substantial $2.3 billion in its Series D funding round.

In a recent post on their blog, they shared plans to invest this funding into creating a code editor that promises to be more engaging, efficient, and innovative than what the market has ever seen.

Founded in 2022 by MIT alumni Michael Truell, Sualeh Asif, Arvid Lunnemark, and Aman Sanger, Cursor is the flagship product of Anysphere, its parent company. Thanks to a growing user base of software developers who appreciate its AI-enhanced capabilities for coding, Anysphere has proudly made its mark as a unicorn in the tech landscape.

According to recent reports, Cursor’s annual revenue has eclipsed $1 billion, solidifying its status as a leading player in the booming realm of AI-driven coding solutions. Just recently, they unveiled a revamped version, Cursor 2.0, showcasing their newly developed AI model, Composer. This innovation has been favorably received among developers who praise its speed, with Cursor asserting that their in-house models are now capable of generating more code than nearly all other LLMs available.

Adding to the excitement, Cursor announced their acquisition of Growth by Design, a recruiting firm with collaborations involving AI industry leaders like OpenAI. In a joint statement, both companies confirmed that a couple of founding partners from the recruiting firm, along with some other staff members, will join the Cursor team. However, the remaining team will be on their own as they venture into future opportunities; they even provided a Google Sheet where readers can access the contact details of those now job-seeking recruiters.

The latest funding round saw support from prominent investors, such as Accel, Thrive, Andreessen Horowitz, and DST, alongside fresh new backers like Coatue, NVIDIA, and Google. Notably, this major funding achievement has catapulted Anysphere’s four co-founders into billionaire status, all while still in their twenties, according to Forbes.
