New details have emerged from the well-known tipster, Digital Chat Station, that might spark your interest—especially if you’re looking forward to the OnePlus 15. Unlike its predecessor, the OnePlus 13, this upcoming device appears set to feature improved optical zoom (and yes, the skip of the OnePlus 14 is due to the unlucky number 4 in China).

According to the leak, expect a 50MP periscope telephoto lens with an 85mm-equivalent focal length and a f/2.8 aperture in the OnePlus 15. For reference, the telephoto lens on the OnePlus 13 only has a 73mm-equivalent focal length. If the main wide-angle camera stays at around a 23mm-equivalent focal length—similar to its predecessor—this new setup should provide approximately 3.7x zoom, which is an upgrade from the OnePlus 13’s roughly 3.17x capability.
However, the updated periscope lens comes with an f/2.8 aperture, which might seem slightly worse than the f/2.6 from the OnePlus 13. This could impact image quality very faintly, but the difference might be negligible with the advances in image processing they’ve been working on.
On another note, there’s speculation suggesting the OnePlus 15 could launch at a lower price point. A post on social media hints that alongside this price adjustment, the phone may come with a 6.78-inch 1.5K display similar to the budget-friendly OnePlus 13R, which is a shift from the standard OnePlus 13’s 6.82-inch 2K display. Additionally, OnePlus appears to have wrapped up its partnership with Hasselblad and is now working on its own imaging technology known as the DetailMax Engine. While this might bring down costs in the long run, developing new imaging solutions could have immediate financial implications.
As for the launch timeline, there’s no official date just yet. But given that past flagship models have been released towards the end of the year, we can probably expect the OnePlus 15 to make its debut in the next couple of months!
