Walmart, the popular U.S. retail giant (WMT), has announced an exciting collaboration with Google’s parent company Alphabet (GOOGL). This partnership aims to upgrade Walmart’s in-house tech brand, Onn, by introducing a range of new security cameras.

New Security Cameras on the Block

The Onn Indoor Camera and the Onn Video Doorbell are designed to seamlessly integrate with Google Home, utilizing the platform’s innovative Gemini features. The Indoor Camera is priced at just $22.96, while the Video Doorbell retails for $49.86. Both devices enable users to set up, stream live footage, and access recorded videos using the Google Home app, making home security easier than ever.

Walmart highlights that these cameras offer up to three hours of snapshots and include capabilities for person and motion detection. One standout feature is sound detection, which can recognize not only loud barks from dogs but also human conversations.

Leveraging AI for Enhanced Features

According to Anish Kattukaran from Google Home, these cameras will also utilize the new Gemini enhancements, allowing subscribers to enjoy features like AI-generated descriptions and camera searches within the Google Home app. Last year, Google emphasized its intention to expand access to its APIs, partnering with various manufacturers to bring Gemini’s advanced functionality to many devices.

“We don’t want to limit Gemini to just one brand or price point,” Kattukaran stated, refining the approach with various partnerships, with Walmart being their initial collaborator. This indicates a serious commitment to brand development, extending beyond typical grocery products into tech.

This partnership not only enhances Walmart’s technological offerings—including smart TVs—but also builds on its capabilities using AI. Walmart is also incorporating tools like chatbot assistants and Trend-to-Product technology that mixes AI with generative algorithms to identify emerging fashion trends and create fresh styles.
