But if you're tired of eating them the way instant ramen gods intended (boil kettle, open flavour sachet, eat, repeat), then you're in luck! We've come up with some cheap and easy instant noodle recipes that will take your noodles up a gear, and all by using ingredients that you'll usually find lurking in your store-cupboards at home already.

Instant Ramen noodles are cheap, quick, and easy to make. What you don’t know is that they are also potentially harmful to your digestive health. When the instant noodles don’t break down, nutrient absorption is affected. This allows preservatives to linger in the stomach for a longer period of time .

PEANUT BUTTER NOODLES RECIPE

Peanut butter noodles ingredients:

  • 2 packets of instant noodles
  • 2 tbsp peanut butter
  • 1 tsp honey
  • 1 tbsp soy sauce
  • 1 tsp dried chilli flakes

You can also add:

  • Chopped coriander
  • Thinly sliced spring onions
  • Sliced red chillies
  • Cooked chicken or any cooked meat you have

What to do:

  1. Mix together peanut butter, honey and soy sauce until the peanut butter is loosened and it resembles a sauce.
  2. Make instant noodles according to package instructions (but without the flavour sachet). Cook them for a minute less than pack instructions so they stay a bit hard.
  3. Drain well, and add to a wok that's placed over a medium-high heat. Fry for 1 minute. Pour in the peanut sauce, dried chilli flakes, and mix to combine. Divide between two bowls and add coriander and spring onions if you have them.

STORE-CUPBOARD RAMEN RECIPE

Store-cupboard ramen ingredients:

  • 1 packet of instant noodles
  • 1 hard boiled egg, cut in half
  • Handful of frozen vegetables (like kale, carrots, broccoli, sugar snap peas)
  • Half a chicken stock cube
  • Sriracha sauce
  • Soy sauce

You can also add:

  • Chopped coriander
  • Thinly sliced spring onions

What to do:

  1. Cook your instant noodles according to package instructions, but instead of adding the flavour sachet, stir in half a chicken stock cube. Add more water than instructed if you want it to be more soupy.
  2. Meanwhile, cook your frozen vegetables according to the package instructions.
  3. Once everything’s cooked, it’s time to assemble your ramen. Place your soupy noodles in a deep bowl along with a good glug of soy sauce. Place your halved hard boiled egg and cooked vegetables on top. Drizzle with Sriracha sauce, and garnish with coriander and spring onions if you have them.

POT NOODLE SOUP RECIPE

Pot Noodle soup ingredients:

  • 1 Pot Noodle
  • 1 egg, beaten
  • Cooked chicken, or any cooked meat or tofu you have
  • Sriracha sauce

What to do:

  1. Cook the Pot Noodle according to pack instructions. When cooked, stir in the egg and transfer into a wok that's been placed over a medium-high-heat. Cook until the egg is thoroughly cooked.
  2. Add your cooked meat or tofu, then transfer to a bowl. Drizzle with Sriracha sauce.

INSTANT NOODLE BAKE RECIPE

Instant noodle bake ingredients:

  • 4 packets of instant noodles
  • 1 jar of tomato pasta sauce
  • 1 pack of beef mince, or any meat you have (we used pork meatballs)
  • Cooked broccoli, or any vegetables you have
  • Handful of grated cheddar or mozzarella

What to do:

  1. Pre-heat your oven to 200ºc (180ºc Fan)
  2. Place a frying pan over a medium-high heat, and brown your meat. Add tomato sauce and cooked vegetables. Season, and simmer for 5 minutes.
  3. Place the uncooked instant noodles into a casserole dish in one layer. Pour over the tomato sauce mixture.
  4. Sprinkle over the grated cheese, and place in the oven. Bake for 25 minutes. Split between four plates, and serve with salad if you have it.

EGG AND BACON NOODLES RECIPE

Egg and bacon noodles ingredients:

  • 1 packet of instant noodles
  • 1 egg, beaten
  • 2 rashers of bacon, cut into thin strips
  • Sesame oil

You could also add:

  • Thinly sliced spring onions

What to do:

  1. Cook your instant noodles according to package instructions (but without the flavour sachet).
  2. Meanwhile, fry your bacon until it’s crispy. Set aside.
  3. Place a wok over a medium-high heat. Add in the beaten egg, and scramble lightly.
  4. Add in your cooked noodles crispy bacon and combine everything.
  5. Drizzle with sesame oil, and serve with spring onions if you have them.

PRAWN LAKSA NOODLE SOUP RECIPE

Prawn Laksa Noodle Soup Ingredients:

  • 1 packet of instant noodles
  • 8-10 cooked frozen prawns
  • Half a tin of coconut milk
  • 1 tbsp Thai green curry paste (or any curry paste you have)

You could also add:

  • Chopped coriander
  • Lime wedge

What to do:

  1. Cook your instant noodles according to package instructions (but without the flavour sachet).
  2. Place a wok over a medium-high heat, and fry the curry paste for 1 minute.
  3. Add in the coconut milk and prawns, and simmer until the prawns are cooked through.
  4. Add the instant noodles, and combine everything. Garnish with coriander and a lime wedge if you have them.
