As is reported on the consumer protection portal "produktwarnung.eu", the production site and products are contaminated. A recommendation by the Swiss Federal Food Safety and Veterinary Office strongly advises against eating the cheese.

Spread each slice of warm French toast with as much Dijon mustard as you’d like. Top each piece with three slices ham and sprinkle with Gruyère. Broil for about 2 minutes, until ham is toasted and cheese is bubbling and melted. (Keep an eye on the sandwiches ; they burn quickly.) Serve warm.

This sandwich is a decadent play on the classic Monte Cristo. For this version, instead of simple bread, make a slice of French toast and pile everything on it in an over-the-top style.

Ingredients

For The French Toast
  • 3

    large eggs

  • 120 mL

    whole milk

  • 1 tbsp.

    sugar

  • Pinch of salt

  • Pinch of freshly ground nutmeg

  • Clarified Butter, for the pan

  • 4

    thick slices brioche

For The Sandwiches
  • Dijon mustard

  • 12

    very thin ham slices

  • 100 g

    finely grated Gruyère cheese

Directions

  1. Make the French toast: In amedium, shallow bowl, whisk together eggs, milk, sugar, salt and nutmeg.
  2. In a nonstick pan setover medium heat, melt enough clarified butter to coat thebottom of the pan. Dip a slice of brioche into the egg mixture, and let restfor about 15 seconds on each side before transferring to the hot pan. Cookuntil golden brown on both sides, about 2 minutes per side. Transfer to awire rack, then repeat with remaining bread slices.
  3. Make the sandwiches: Heat grill.
  4. Spread each slice of warmFrench toast with as much Dijon mustard as you’d like. Top each piece withthree slices ham and sprinkle with Gruyère. Place on a baking tray.
  5. Grill for about 2 minutes, until ham is toasted and cheese is bubbling and melted. (Keep an eye on the sandwiches; they burn quickly.) Serve warm.
