The Great South Run is back and is celebrating its 30th anniversary this year.

Thousands of people are set to take part in the event in Portsmouth in October.

The Great South Run was launched in 1990 and originally took place in Southampton but moved to Portsmouth the following year where it has remained ever since.

The main event is a 10-mile run while there are also options for shorter runs, including the 5K event.

The 10 mile route will start from South Parade in Portsmouth , with thousands of runners setting off along Clarence Esplanade. The route will then take them towards the historic dockyard and HM Naval Base, before turning east and heading past Victoria Park. Runners will then head along the other side

The times from the run will be published on the Great Run series – the organisers of the event – website following the race.

You will be able to enter your surname or race number to find out exactly how you did.

The 10-mile Great South Run has a number of different start times on 20 October, depending on which waves runners are in.

The car parking and information point open at 7am, the baggage room will open at 7.30am and the start assembly area opens at 9am.

Other features include the Clif Feed Station, giving out energy gels and chews at mile seven, and Wave 105.2 FM giving out the traditional jelly babies at mile nine along the seafront.
