Following recent speculation over the Nike Vaporfly being banned when World Athletics announces new rules surrounding running shoes, eagle eyed runners on Twitter spotted a new Adidas prototype on the feet of some of the fastest runners at the Houston Half Marathon at the weekend.

The shoe appears to have a huge stack height and a subtle line through the midsole, which some have presumed is a carbon plate, sandwiched between foam. The all-white shoe was spotted on Philemon Kiplimo and Abel Kipchumba, both Adidas athletes. Kiplimo finished in 59:28 in fourth place. Kipchumba finished in 59:35 in fifth place.

Before the New York Marathon in November, Mary Keitany was spotted running in a shoe that had a resemblance to the Adidas Adizero Pro. Before the race Keitany said she had never run in the Nike Next% and was running in a ‘normal shoe’ for the marathon. The shoe spotted at the weekend looks very different to the shoe Keitany wore last November.

Last year, Strava reported that runners who wore Nike Next% finished the Tokyo, Boston, London and Berlin marathon majors fastest, closely followed by Nike Zoom Vaporfly. Aside from a shoe released with Porsche in 2014, as far as we can remember, Adidas have not yet made a running shoe featuring a carbon fibre plate.
