MILAN (Reuters) - The toll of the Covid-19 epidemic in Italy has increased by 525 deaths to a total of 15,887, but represents the smallest increase in a day for more than two weeks, announced on Sunday Department of Civil Protection.

The total number of confirmed cases increased to 128,948, against 124,632 on Saturday, an increase less than the previous day which adds to the signs that the epidemic has reached a plateau in Italy almost a month after the establishment of national confinement on March 9.

The number of intensive care patients fell for the second day in a row to 3,977, compared to 3,994 on Friday. Authorities reported the first drop that day since the outbreak in the north of the country on February 21.

Of the total number of people infected, 21,815 were declared cured on Sunday, compared to 20,996 on Saturday.
