In 2004, Estée Lauder died at the age of well over 90, the exact year of her birth is unknown. Even today, modern women can learn something from the innovative and enterprising entrepreneur: Estée Lauder started with four products - and in 1998 it was on the list of the 20 most influential business geniuses of the century in US magazine "Time". Estée Lauder was the only woman on this list. "I've never dreamed of success. I worked for it," she is supposed to have said once.

The story of her career sounds like the American dream: the daughter of a Hungarian mother and a Czech father was born as Josephine Esther Mentzer in Queens, New York. Her uncle is said to have aroused her interest in beauty and care products, who mixed skin creams in the family kitchen and later in a laboratory. When she married her husband Joseph Lauter in 1930, she took his name, later the couple changed it to Lauder. In 1946, the year after the Second World War, the two founded their company. Today the Estée Lauder Companies is a cosmetics company spanning 150 countries, under whose roof more than 25 popular brands such as Aveda, Bobbi Brown and Clinique are gathered.
