We all know the saying ‘distance makes the heart grow fonder’ and this was very much the case for Katie and Shane whose long distance relationship sealed the deal on their love.

It was while Shane was living abroad for a year that he realised his true feelings for Katie,  asking her to move in with him upon returning home.

Romance first blossomed for this pair when they met at the bride’s cousin’s 21st birthday party, Shane being a close pal of the birthday girl’s boyfriend. The setting? The pub next door to the church they would go on to marry in eight years later!

The big proposal was perfectly planned by the groom, so much so, the bride didn’t have an inkling that he was about to go down on bended knee.

‘Shane proposed on 24th January 2014,’ Katie tells EVOKE. ‘We had planned to go out for dinner and meet friends but when we got to the restaurant we got a call saying they were running late and we were to go ahead and eat without them.’

‘When we were finished eating we rang them and they said they were in the Candle Bar at Kelly’s Hotel and that we were to meet them there. When we got there, the place was empty. There were candles everywhere and a bottle of prosecco chilling on the table.’

‘I discovered our friends were never meant to meet us, it was all a scheme to have me dressed up and Shane proposed to me there! It was very romantic. He had booked the penthouse suite at the hotel and our friends that were in on the plan came and met us for drinks to celebrate.’

They were certain of a few details as wedding planning commenced – they would marry in the church across the road from the bride’s parents’ house, with the grooms uncle, a priest, officiating the wedding.

Everything else fell into place as they began planning, including their venue, The Landmark Hotel, which they decided to pop down to for a quick look around one afternoon.

‘We were amazed by everything they had to offer and we knew it was the perfect spot for our reception,’ Katie enthuses. ‘The hotel has its own dedicated wedding coordinator and that was invaluable to us in terms of both ideas and preparing for the big day itself.’

‘Having someone like that who can help you out really takes the pressure off so if at all possible, that is great to have! We were also so lucky that a lot of our friends and family pitched in and helped with lots of creative bits and pieces from the music to the origami centre pieces. Everyone indulged us in our creative fantasies!’

Katie Price Finds An Inventive New Way To Get Around After Breaking Both Her Feet

Katie Price Finds An Inventive New Way To Get Around After Breaking Both Her Feet Katie Price has been forced to think creatively when it comes to her mobility, after breaking both of her feet and ankles in an accident on holiday. Last week, Katie made headlines when it was revealed she’d seriously hurt her ankles and feet after falling over a wall while in Turkey with her family and new partner, Carl Woods. While medics informed Katie at the time that she wouldn’t be able to walk for three to six months, she has now revealed to her Instagram followers that she’s been able to think on her feet (or rather, not on her feet) and come up with a solution to getting around the house.

Venue sorted, it was time to find the dress next and with a tea length style in mind, the bride made a beeline for Dirty Fabulous in Dublin.

‘I’d looked in a few bridal outlet shops around Dublin but saw nothing that I liked,’ Katie explains. ‘I knew I wanted a tea length dress and from some research I found Dirty Fabulous on Wicklow Street had a good selection of vintage tea length dresses in the style I liked.’

‘I had one appointment there and I found the dress of my dreams. The girls there were fantastic; I went back and got a bespoke comb and birdcage veil to complete the look!’

Choosing the bridal party look was a fuss-free affair too, with Katie giving her girls free reign to choose what they felt most comfortable in: ‘I said the dresses had to be purple and they did the rest! We ordered them online so we never went on a big shopping trip.’

Their wedding theme, she tells us, was vintage with hints of lilac and purple bringing the whole day together: ‘It wasn’t a conscious theme choice, it just all came together that way in the end. I suppose it was a bit inspired by my dress!’

From Katie , “Our wedding was a little bit summer camp, a little bit renaissance fair, and a whole lot of fun. Our first step of wedding planning was to find a venue that would allow the celebration to last for days instead of just hours. With that in mind we finally found Camp Lane, a symphony of Oregon

Recalling their special day in 2015, Katie says doing a ‘first look’ ahead of meeting each other at the top of the aisle was a huge help in calming those pre-wedding jitters.

‘I loved our first look,’ she smiles. ‘It was so intimate as we met at the top of my parent’s garden, just us and the photographer and videographer. It gave us a chance to see each other and take a moment to appreciate the day and talk to each other about how we felt because in the church and after, you don’t get a minute to take it all in!’

Recalling the ceremony, Shane says he is grateful to his uncle Father Val for encouraging everyone to greet each other before officially starting the ceremony: ‘It was a really nice idea because it gave Katie and I a chance to breath and gather our emotions after she walked up the aisle. It put everyone at ease and was really sweet.’

Another highlight? The surprise 1977 Ford Capri Katie organised to pick him and his groomsmen up on the morning of the wedding!

‘Katie had arranged a classic 1977 Ford Capri to collect me from the Landmark to bring me and my groomsmen to the church,’ Shane explains. ‘I hadn’t expected it at all.’

Katie Price Gets Real About The Struggles Of Having A Bath After Breaking Her Feet

Katie Price Gets Real About The Struggles Of Having A Bath After Breaking Her Feet Since breaking her feet on holiday last month, Katie Price has been keeping fans regularly updated on how she’s adjusting to life as she recovers from her injuries, and she’s now shared one of the newest pitfalls that’s come her way. Posting on her Instagram story this week, Pricey admitted that having a bath independently was proving to be an issue for her, not just because getting into the actual tub was such a difficult task without being able to put pressure on her feet, but also due to the fact she’s not supposed to get her two casts wet.

For the bride, having Shane’s niece – her flower girl – in the church was also very special as the young girl was feeling ill on the day: ‘She made it to the church but wasn’t able to walk up the aisle. It was a pity she was so unwell but we were just so glad that she was able to come.’

The icing on the wedding cake for this pair? The carnival that was in town which made for very fun wedding pictures!

‘My advice to those about to get married is to really enjoy the day and not take it too seriously,’ Shane says. ‘Things will go wrong and you have to just let it slide.’

‘Our aim was to just have fun and make sure everyone else did too; we made it personal but not selfish!’
