Roy Hodgson say Benteke will be on fire next season

Roy Hodgson say Benteke will be on fire next season Crystal Palace manager Roy Hodgson claims forward Christian Benteke will be on fire for Palace next season, as the London club are on course to stay in the Premier League. The Belgian striker has struggled for form this season, scoring three goals in 29 league appearance, including one in last weekend’s 5-0 win over Leicester. According to Reuters, manager Hodgson says that his struggles this season are not a ‘true reflection of his talent’ and that he will prove it next season. He said: “It has not been a great season and he’ll tell you that. But I think he is a lot better than what we have seen this season,” “I would expect him to go out and prove next season that this season was not a true reflection of him.” Hodgson’s men were bottom of the league when he took over from Frank De Boer in September. He has now guided the Eagles to 11th place with 38 points from 36 matches and he says he is keen on improving Palace and making a better start to a season. “Unless you’re one of the top six sides in the league it tends to be a two manager job to keep a team up. I’ll be talking to the directors… so that we can prepare to push on next season.

VIDEO REVIEW | Stoke City 1-2 Crystal Palace In this week’s e-Crystal Palace Podcast, I review the game against Stoke City by giving you my match review, player rankings as well as my Man of the Match. Palace mathematically secured a sixth consecutive season of Premier League football, relegating the Potters in the process. Having been behind through a deflected Xherdan Shaqiri’s free-kick, Palace equalised midway through the second half after James McArthur finished off a swift counter-attack. Patrick van Aanholt then scored the winner, secured his team’s Premier League safety and extending the unbeaten run to five games. Who was at blame for Shaqiri’s goal? How good is the Sakho-Tomkins partnership? Was the substitution of Kelly for Ward correct? Can Palace finish in the top ten? All this and more in this week’s e-Crystal Palace Podcast. The Lamborghini Urus: to the manor born or a blot on the landscape? Whatever your views on Lamborghini’s first modern-day SUV, you can’t deny that this thing oozes presence. It catches the eye, even in these palatial surroundings and when flanked by the kind of cars you’d more readily associate with Sant’Agata.

Packing a 4.0-litre V8 twin-turbocharged engine, the Urus develops 650hp, giving it the best power-to-weight ratio in its class, which kinda helps when your SUV weighs about as much as the Duke of Marlborough’s Oxfordshire pad.

It’ll rocket to 62mph in just 3.6 seconds, before hitting a top speed of 189mph. Try doing that in your 18th century monumental English country house. In short, it’s the fastest five-seat SUV in the world. Eat your heart out, Bentley Bentayga.

Zaha named Premier League player of the month for April Crystal Palace winger Wilfried Zaha has been named the Premier League player of the month for April. The winger has been a crucial part of Palace’s survival this season, and has become the first player outside the top six to receive the award during the current campaign. Palace looked doomed at the start of the season, but Roy Hodgson has led them to 11th in the table as it stands, with one game to go. Zaha missed the start of the season through injury but has gone on to score eight goals and provide three assists in the Premier League.

Dream garage at the dream house

Alpine A110 © Provided by Motoring Research Alpine A110

As inspirations for dream garages go, this is a pretty epic line-up. Packing for a family skiing trip in the Swiss Alps? Take the Urus or Bentayga. Fancy a romantic weekend away with your better half? Grab the keys to the David Brown Speedback.

There’s even a David Brown Mini Remastered, should the butler run out of goats milk and you need to nip to the organic farm shop for fresh supplies.

Right now, we’d probably take the Alpine A110 on a tour of the Oxfordshire countryside. The retro-inspired two-seater sports car is powered by a 1.8-litre turbocharged engine, which drives the rear wheels via a seven-speed DCT gearbox.

We haven’t driven it (yet), but given the lightness (1,080kg), 0-62mph time (4.5 seconds) and 44:56 weight distribution, we suspect the A110 would be the perfect car to escape the manicured lawns of Blenheim Palace, before weaving our way through the Cotswolds, across the border into Wales, before heading back for supper.

Hodgson backs Loftus-Cheek for World Cup

Hodgson backs Loftus-Cheek for World Cup Crystal Palace boss Roy Hodgson believes Ruben Loftus-Cheek deserves a spot in Gareth Southgate’s England squad for the World Cup next month in Russia. The 22-year old on loan from Chelsea has been one of Palace’s standout performers this season, and was even rewarded with a debut England cap against Germany in November – where he further impressed. Palace will be hoping they can convince Chelsea to let the young midfielder leave this summer, with Hodgson confirming he would like to sign Loftus-Cheek permanently. However, the player’s priority will be making the Three Lions’ squad and impressing if he gets the chance, and Hodgson believes he has what it takes to do so. When asked if he would include Loftus-Cheek if he was still manager, Hodgson said; “Yes. I don’t wish to suggest anybody to (England boss) Gareth Southgate, because it’s his decision alone, and I don’t want to be seen to be pushing any player towards him.” “(But) if it was a much more specific question; if it was me selecting the squad, would I find a place for him in the squad, I would.

The organisers are keen to point out that Supercars at the Palace was merely a preview for the much bigger event later in the year. “Supercars at the Palace was essentially a three-hour breakfast meet” said sales director and co-founder, David Bagley.

“When you consider that we had in excess of £50 million worth of cars on display and more than 10,000 visitors attending, just imagine what the main event, Blenheim Palace Classic & Supercar will be like on September 2nd.”

David Bagley continued: “That event will comprise of the latest manufacturer displays, classic car displays, a 400-strong Porsche 70 years celebration and the focal point of the day, 80 carefully selected supercars from 1978 to modern day competing in the Pirelli Prestige & Performance Competition – the UK’s only concours event for modern-day classics.

“In total, we anticipate in excess of 1,000 cars and more than 20,000 visitors. In a very short space of time, it has become Oxfordshire’s Motor Show and will be a fantastic day out for owners, collectors, buyers and enthusiasts of all ages.”

McArthur confirms his intentions to stay at Palace .
Crystal Palace midfielder James McArthur has said he would like to end his career at the club amid talk of a move away from Selhurst Park this week, according to Football London. The Scotland international has been linked with a switch to boyhood club Rangers and newly promoted Cardiff City, however, he has no intentions of leaving the London club. On the speculation, the Eagles midfielder said: “I am not bothered, I am a Palace player and I love it here. I want to stay here and I would love to finish my career here. It is a great bunch of boys, the fans are amazing, and the manager and everyone around the club has been brilliant since I stepped into the place.” The 30-year old enjoyed a good season, making 35 appearances in a Palace side that steered comfortably away from relegation under Roy Hodgson. After a torrid start to the campaign, the Eagles were able to turn their fortunes around, securing a highly impressive finish in the Premier League. This will be McArthur’s fifth season at the club, having made 130 appearances and scoring 16 goals in a Palace shirt thus far.
