Lego has revealed two new motoring projects, bringing its unique brick-inspired approach to world-famous sports car brand Lamborghini and cinematic powerhouse Fast & Furious.

In recent years, the construction toy maker has become increasingly involved in creating kits based on real-world vehicles and the two new projects are the latest partnerships between its advanced Technic arm and major car makers/franchises.

The ninth in the hugely successful Fast & Furious film series is due in cinemas in May 2020 and, along with video games and a new animated TV series, the franchise is expanding into Lego. To tie in with the release of the film a special Lego Technic Fast & Furious set is due to be released in late April.

At the same time as the film tie-in announcement Lego also revealed that Lamborghini will be the latest brand to get the Technic Ultimate treatment.

Details of which Sant'Agata model is to be recreated in Lego haven’t yet been revealed but the 1:8 scale kit will be the third in the Technic Ultimate series.

LEGO Technic has now been challenging LEGO builders for over 40 years. From planes and cranes to supercars and monster machines, LEGO Technic is always about awesome models, advanced functions and building for real.

In 2016 Lego launched the Porsche 911 GT3 RS and in 2018 it released the 3,599-piece Bugatti Chiron, which featured a working sequential gearbox, four-wheel-drive and a deployable spoiler.

Katia Bassi, Lamborghini’s chief marketing and communication officer, said: “The Lego Group has amazed entire generations with beautifully simple or extremely complex constructions. In the digital age, where entertainment is often via a screen, our collaboration allows enthusiasts to live a real experience, reproducing a Lamborghini super sports car in every detail to create an outstanding model, just like the real car.”

The LEGO Technic Lamborghini model will be available direct from Lego’s online and retail stores from June 1, 2020 and elsewhere from August 1. No price has been announced but both the Porsche and Bugatti kits cost in excess of £300 when they were launched.
