Parking prangs are now costing Britain’s motorists more than £ 1 .4bn a year as drivers struggle to squeeze ever larger cars into tight spaces .

Most parking prangs take place at slow speed, the replacement vehicle provider says, and involve damage to doors, wheels, bumpers and Accident Exchange undertook its own research in Kingston-upon-Thames. It found the average width of a car park space in the Surrey town is just 7ft 8in.
