The current 3008 still looks fresh but the new model is expected to have styling similar to the new Peugeot 208 and Peugeot 2008. It’s highly likely that Peugeot’s designers will incorporate fang-like LED daytime running lights, darkened tail-lights and a sharply raked rear windscreen. A contrasting colour roof will be offered as an extra personalisation option.

It’ll remain a five-door model but a sloping roofline will slightly reduce rear-seat space. The car’s size means adults should still be comfortable in the back, while boot space won’t be a priority but, again, it should still be decent. The concept would be similar to the Range Rover Evoque, although we’d expect a lower starting price than that car.

Peugeot, part of the PSA Group, has access to an electric powertrain consisting of a 50kWh battery and a 134bhp motor. It’s used in the Peugeot e-208, e-2008 and the new e-Traveller MPV, so it seems the most suitable option for an electric model, which would be badged Peugeot e-3008.

Petrol choices will be a 128bhp or 153bhp 1.2-litre engine and a 178bhp 1.6-litre (exclusively mated to an automatic gearbox in the current model), and the 128bhp 1.5-litre diesel engine is expected to be offered once more, despite falling diesel sales. The two plug-in hybrid powertrains currently available offer up to 40 miles of range, and these are likely to be updated for the next-gen model.

New Volkswagen Tiguan eHybrid 2020 review .
New Volkswagen Tiguan eHybrid 2020 reviewThis new plug-in hybrid version of the Tiguan could be a hit with company car buyers if the price is right, combining low running costs, relaxing driving characteristics and, in all probability, a low Benefit-in-Kind rating when it arrives in the UK next year. Performance is good too, while the eHybrid doesn’t stress its green credentials; it feels entirely conventional and thoroughly a part of the regular Tiguan family. Its straightforward nature could make it an alternative for regular diesel buyers too.
