As such, it’ll come with the same range of chassis tweaks and the same updated engine-range, which includes either a 114bhp turbocharged 1.0-litre three-cylinder petrol unit or a 2.0-litre four-cylinder diesel engine with either 74bhp, 101bhp or 120bhp.

Designed to sleep two people, the first images show the Mini-camper will have a bed measuring almost two metres in length, with 'disc spring elements' for added comfort. A set of lightweight camping chairs and table are also stowed in the rear, while two convenient storage bags are used to transfer items between the home and camper. These can also double as privacy screens when fastened in the rear windows.

For a 'romantic touch', there's also the option of a large panoramic glass roof that's ideal for stargazing as you go to sleep. A cover to block out the morning sun, and the design sketches show the living area can be expanded by attaching a tent extension to boot.
The Caddy Mini-camper also features up to 19 driving aids to make long-distance trips more comfortable. Travel Assist - a first in a commercial VW - can help out with driving in heavy traffic, with Trailer Assist aiding reversing and there's also Side Assist and Rear Traffic Alert to help avoid collisions.
Engines will include new TDI diesel units with between 74bhp and 120bhp, with reduced emissions thanks to twin dosing of AdBlue fluid in the exhaust system. According to VW, this makes the Caddy's diesel engines 'among the cleanest in the world'. A petrol TSI engine with 114bhp will also be available.
