An all-star adaptation of EM Forster's best-known novel Howards End aired on BBC One this evening (November 12), and it had Twitter all abuzz.

Just, not entirely for the right reasons.

Originally published in 1910, Howards End follows the story of the Schlegel sisters as they cause havoc for the affluent Wilcoxes.

Joining this four-part adaptation are Hayley Atwell (Agent Carter), Tracey Ullman, Matthew Macfadyen (Pride and Prejudice) and Alex Lawther (End of the F***ing World), but despite the strong cast, a lot of viewers weren't feeling it.

This Is The Most Watched UK TV Programme Of The Year

This Is The Most Watched UK TV Programme Of The Year It's no surprise that Blue Planet II has been revealed as the most watched UK TV show of the year so far. The opening episode of the Attenborough-narrated wildlife series, which is a follow up to 2001's Blue Planet, has attracted an average of 14.1 million viewers in the week since it was first broadcast, according to The Guardian. This makes Blue Planet II's premiere the most watched programme of 2017 so far, just ahead of the One Love Manchester charity concert in June, which had 11.6 million viewers.

In a twist of fate, the Wilcoxes move to London and take a flat around the corner from the Schlegels, leading Margaret to strike up a friendship with the enigmatic but ailing Mrs Wilcox. Sun 12 Nov 2017 21:00. BBC One . View Programme information. See all episodes from Howards End .

Many compared it less than favourably to the 1992 movie, which boasted Anthony Hopkins, Vanessa Redgrave, Helena Bonham Carter and Emma Thompson among its all-star cast

Thompson played Margaret Schlegel, and recently gave Hayley Atwell some advice on how to play the character, urging her to avoid the film entirely and be her own Margaret.

Atwell's performance was singled out as a high point, but it didn't stop viewers complaining about the apparently imposing musical score and slow pace.

Oh, and also that last-minute "spoiler" about a huge death in next week's episode.

Here's a round-up of reactions:

Paul Hollywood Says Mel & Sue And Mary Berry ‘Abandoned’ ‘The Great British Bake Off’, But Has Forgiven Prue Leith For *That* Blunder It sounds like Paul Hollywood is still smarting after the ‘Great British Bake Off’ faithful said he had betrayed the show by staying with it when it moved to its new home on Channel 4. In a new interview, the baker has accused his former colleagues Mel Giedroyc, Sue Perkins and Mary Berry of “abandoning” the show after it was poached from the BBC earlier this year.He told Radio Times: “I stayed with Bake Off. The girls abandoned it. But I was the one put under siege. I became the most hated man in the country.“It’s not fun for someone that doesn’t like being in the limelight.

And some people thought it was incredibly inaccurate:
