Speaking to the Daily Record, Renée, 48, said that she would definitely be down for playing London’s favourite female once more.

‘I really hope (there is another movie),’ she gushed. ‘I do. I love her. She’s so much fun.’

Her comments come after a third instalment of the Bridget chronicles, Bridget Jones’ Baby, was filmed last year, 12 years after the second movie, Bridget Jones: The Edge of Reason.

The film, based Helen Fielding’s 1996 book of the same name, won lifelong fans, including yours truly. It’s no wonder Renee is enthusiastic because who doesn’t love Bridget and her huge knickers?

Speaking about the beloved character, Renée said: ‘I really like the place she is at in her life, but it’s Bridget and there’s always going to be some drama.

‘She’s so perfectly imperfect. It was really special to see her so welcomed and loved after such a long time away because it can go either way. This could have been the one I was finally found out on.’

Meanwhile, Renée’s constant yo-yo weight gains and losses over the years to play Bridget has been a source of great interest. During Bridget Jones Baby, writers wanted to show her having achieved her ‘ideal weight.’

She told The Telegraph: ‘Sharon was hoping we could show that Bridget had achieved her ideal weight, but at the same time it didn’t mean her life was perfect.

‘I wasn’t sure about that one though because we all have something we think is wrong, that needs fixing, that in our own minds represents the ideal that we are meant to obtain. And I like the idea that that stays with us throughout our lives.’
