"What I love about that aspect of the movie when it comes to that is that emotions, to me are like a gut check; they’re intuition," Brie explained. "Emotions are the thing that are underneath the surface, and I do think there’s a lot of pressure to deny that part of ourselves and to fall in line. I am curious to see if more and more people could have a better inner dialogue with themselves and a better inner voice."

They made me understand what other countries were like, and what it was like to live in other places. And also, all the different ways you can be a human being.”

Brie added: “So for me, part of my life’s work is to add more of a variety to what that experience on screen is so more and more people can feel like they’re being seen."

And on young girls getting the chance to see more female directors being honoured for their work (Captain Marvel is directed by Anna Boden and Ryan Fleck), Brie added: “What we’re talking about is in every industry we want to see more representation and more equality across the board in every position.

"Those are barriers that we have to break, but I feel encouraged; I feel like it’s starting to happen more and more."

Captain Marvel is due for release Friday 8th March.
