Dame Joan Collins has thanked emergency services after a "terrifying" fire broke out in her London flat . Fire crews were called to a seven-storey building on Eaton Place, Belgravia, at 4.30pm on Saturday. The blaze was brought under control around an hour later by 10 firefighters .

Dame Joan Collins had to be treated for smoke inhalation after a “terrifying” fire at her flat in London.

Fire crews were called to the actress’s building in Belgravia on Saturday afternoon, and got the blaze under control.

Dame Joan, 85, has now thanked firefighters and the NHS for their help, and also praised her “hero”, her husband Percy Gibson, for tackling the fire.

She said on Twitter: “THANK U from the bottom of my to the marvelous @LondonFire who attended to the terrifying fire yesterday in our flat. #threealarmfire.

“My hero Percy had already doused the flames consuming the entire wall with handheld extinguisher (#donttakethisrisk). #gratitude #firefighters.”

Dame Joan Collins had to flee her Belgravia, London flat after a fire on Saturday. The actress was treated for smoke inhalation in a nearby NHS hospital, and she thanked the fire brigade for keeping her calm.

London Fire Brigade commissioner Dany Cotton responded to Dame Joan’s post, tweeting: “Thank you for your kind message.

“We were glad to be of assistance.

“Please let us know if there is anything else we can do to help.”

The actress later shared a video on Instagram showing her charred, peeling walls.

“Oh God!” she can be heard saying, as she pans the camera around to show the damage.

London Fire Brigade said: “Two fire engines and around 10 firefighters were called to a fire at a flat on Eaton Place in Belgravia.

“Part of a flat on the first floor of the seven-storey building was damaged by the fire. Two people left the property before the brigade arrived.

“The brigade was called at 4.28pm and the fire was under control by 5.36pm. Two fire engines and a turn table ladder from Soho fire station attended the scene.

“The cause of the fire is under investigation.”
