Excited Konta ready for Wimbledon

Excited Konta ready for Wimbledon Johanna Konta will have to overcome a mixed grass-court record when Wimbledon gets underway, but insists she is prepared as she can be. Other than a run to the semi-final in 2017, Konta has never gone beyond the second round in six other previous attempts and it wasn't until her fifth visit that she claimed her first win on the grass of the All-England Club. However, the 28-year-old has made a habit of breaking the norm, and it's at the Grand Slams that she tends to do it.

Wimbledon Finally Drops 'Miss' And 'Mrs' Titles For Female Tennis Players

Wimbledon Finally Drops 'Miss' And 'Mrs' Titles For Female Tennis Players Female tennis players at Wimbledon will no longer be addressed as ‘Miss’ or ’Mrs by umpires during matches – as the All England Lawn Tennis and Croquet Club says it has to “move with the times”. The prefix is being dropped to bring things into line with the way male players are addressed by match officials. So when a woman wins a game, set or match, the umpire will now simply say: “Game, Williams”, rather than “Game, Mrs Williams” (‘Ms’ has never been used). The All England Club says it wants to “achieve consistency” between the sexes.

Britain's Johanna Konta through to Wimbledon quarter-finals.
British number one Johanna Konta is into the Wimbledon quarter-finals after beating former champion Petra Kvitova in three sets, 4-6 6-2 6-4. Just as she did against Sloane Stephens on Saturday, Konta came from a set down to see off her opponent on Centre Court. Konta found it difficult to serve the match out - unable to claim victory when she had two match points at 5-2 in the final set, going on to lose the game. She had reached the brink of victory after winning five games in a row, and was more assured in her final service game, clinching the deciding set.
