On Sept. 21, People magazine reported a source saying that the couple has separated, although they are “still friends.” The report quoted, “They’ve been friends forever and were there for each other when they were both getting separated... but they’re just not in a romantic relationship anymore." Cyrus and Carter have been together since announcing their splits from husband Liam Hemsworth and partner Brody Jenner, respectively.

The former Alaska governor's husband has filed for divorce citing "incompatibility of temperament," after 31 years of marriage. The filing also includes a child custody jurisdiction affidavit. Sarah and Todd married in August 1988 and are parents to five children.
