In 2014, Nicole appeared as Grizabella in a West End revival of the classic musical, which earned her an Olivier nomination.

Following this, she was lined up to appear in a new Broadway version of the show, but pulled out “at the eleventh hour” when she was offered the opportunity to return to The X Factor, much to the chagrin of the musical’s producer, Andrew Lloyd Webber.

“She’s crazy!” he famously fumed at the time. “But the American producers just took a view - ‘Well, fine, we’ll get somebody else’, because she’s actually not very well known in America amazingly. She’s much better known [in the UK].”

Eliot) in which a diverse group of felines compete to see which of them gets to ascend to the Heaviside Lair and be reborn into a new Jellicle life. That competition unfolds at the annual Jellicle Ball, where contestants perform a spectacle-driven series of musical numbers.

In a new interview with The Guardian, Nicole claimed the casting director for the forthcoming film version of Cats – which will star Jennifer Hudson in the role of Grizabella – wouldn’t even see her audition, leaving her “devastated”.

That really upset me, I won’t lie about that,” she said. “I was devastated. I just wanted to be given a fair opportunity – then you can turn me down. Turn me down, to my face at least, and they didn’t.”

a cat sitting on a table: Ever since the Cats movie trailer dropped, people have been losing their minds over the crazy transformations. Instead of having the stars lend their voices to actual cats (like in Disney's live-action remake of The Lion King), the stars take on a weird mix of human and cat with legs and arms, but also tails and whiskers. It's definitely a bit unsettling to say the least. After seeing Taylor Swift, Idris Elba, Jennifer Hudson, and more stars in action in the latest trailer, it has us even more curious about what everyone else looks like out of costume.
