It's finally time for Happy Valley to return to screens – at least according to one cast member.

The BBC drama has been held up for years now because writer Sally Wainwright wants young Rhys Connah – who plays Catherine Cawood's (Sarah Lancashire) grandson – to be a teenager as part of the storyline for a third season.

Cast member Siobhan Finneran, who plays Catherine's troubled sister Clare, finally had some exciting news about the future of the show when she appeared on This Morning this week.

"Rhys, who plays Ryan, sent me a little message at Christmas and he looks like a fully grown man now, so he is growing up."

Asked if that meant the timing is now right for Happy Valley to return, Finneran answered: "Yeah!"

Writer Sally Wainwright also confirmed to Digital Spy last summer that Happy Valley is "not on the back-burner", even though she is busy with Gentleman Jack and Last Tango in Halifax.

Unfortunately, Happy Valley will likely have a limited lifespan because Siobhan Finneran has admitted in the past that it's not a show that can "run and run" for many series.
