Colombia: the Supreme Court opens a preliminary investigation against Alvaro Uribe

An independent investigation has been launched and the former Irish President, Mary Robinson, will head the panel of experts charged with conducting it.

An election in two months
The work of this panel of personalities from outside the AfDB is to shed light on the conclusions. The ethics committee had exonerated Akinwumi Adesina, but the finding was rejected by the whistleblowers behind the case, as well as by the United States, the AfDB's second largest shareholder after Nigeria.
The three investigators have two to four weeks to report. An expected report since in less than two months, the Pan-African financial institution must elect its president. The Nigerian's re-election seemed assured six months ago, reinforced by the absence of a competitor. The fate of Akinwumi Adesina will now depend on the report of the team of independent investigators.
