The giant of online classified ads has just struck a blow to count in the world of travel. It obtained the partnership of the Accor group, a behemoth of the French hotel industry which has more than 5,000 establishments worldwide. What does this change for us travelers? Decryption.

Tourism is the new workhorse of the Leboncoin site. The platform with 28 million unique visitors per month has been accelerating on the subject since the start of the year, with the takeover of a start-up (Pilgo) which allows independent hoteliers to offer their rooms on Leboncoin. Until now, internet users could only book a rental or find a gîte on Leboncoin. Reference for finding a used car or finding a vintage piece of furniture, the giant of classified ads had not yet managed to become a reflex to organize his holidays.

By obtaining a partnership with the Accor group, Leboncoin gives a boost to its new activity. We can already find the big brands of hotels well known to tourists to book a night, namely F1, Ibis (Ibis, Ibis Styles, Ibis Budget), Mercure, Novotel, Tribe, Greet and Mama Shelter. It is the mid-range and budget hotels that are concerned. Luxury brands such as Sofitel or Raffles are logically not referenced in the holiday section of Boncoin.

For this start, Accor hotels will not be subject to any commission from Boncoin. A measure that will apply until the end of the year. With such collaboration, Leboncoin imagines itself as an alternative to the giant Booking, which also references Accor hotels.

For the sixth hotelier in the world, this association is also a way of staying in a very difficult economic context caused by the coronavirus crisis. The French group announced in early April that it would have to close two-thirds of its hotels worldwide.

But, this is not the first time that Accor has dared partnerships that may surprise. To materialize its desire to break into the Chinese market, the French group had signed last year with the Chinese e-commerce giant Alibaba. In concrete terms, Accor hotels and restaurants were thus able to be listed on the Fliggy website, the travel branch of Alibaba. Already in 2018, the French company represented by its emblematic boss Sébastien Bazin had accepted a merger with Ctrip, a Chinese online travel agency which has more than 300 million active users each month.
