Hollyoaks star Ellis Hollins has publicly apologised after his latest photoshoot sparked a backlash.

The actor, who has played Tom Cunningham on the Channel 4 soap since he was age 3, drew some complaints on Tuesday (July 7) by sharing a professional photo of himself taken on a railway.

No trains were visible, but there were complaints that the image could influence Hollins's young followers over unsafe railway procedures.

Hollins subsequently took down the photo, along with publicly apologising for any offence he may have caused.

"I apologise for my recent post, it was irresponsible and I was careless to take part in such a dangerous situation, I do not condone in recreational acts in any way on train lines," he tweeted.

"As for clarification on why we shot there, my excuse at the time was me and the photographer had taken into consideration when trains were due to pass, and we had literally miles of visible track either side of us."

Hollins has been documenting his life during quarantine throughout his break in filming Hollyoaks, having most recently shared his body transformation on social media to wow fans.

Hollyoaks airs Mondays and Tuesdays at 6.30pm on Channel 4, with first-look episodes airing on E4 at 7pm. Wednesdays through Fridays on E4 feature classic episodes called Hollyoaks Favourites.
