Doctor Alex George has paid tribute to his younger brother Llyr on the day of his funeral.

The Love Island star, 27, who is originally from Carmarthen, revealed on his Instagram account in late July that his younger brother had died and that he had lost his "beautiful little brother to mental health".

In a heartfelt post to his brother, who he said was due to start medical school next month, Dr Alex shared his family's devastation.

He wrote: "I can't believe I am actually writing this post. I have lost my beautiful little brother to mental health.

The night before that he'd posted: "Tomorrow will be the hardest day of my life. We will get through for Llŷr and the rest of the family."

The Love Island star, who has been fighting the coronavirus pandemic on the frontline in his job as an A&E doctor, also thanked his followers for their support throughout the difficult time.

"The kindness and love our family has received has been incredible and I am so grateful," he said.

"In the darkest times we must pick ourselves up, find strength and be there for our family and friends. That is exactly what I will do."

When news of Llyr's death first broke, Dr Alex's fellow Welsh islander Rosie Williams posted: 'Oh no Alex! This is so awful. I’m so so sorry from the bottom of my heart.

"Sending you all the love in the world. Thinking of you and your family through this terrible time."
