AN EMBARRASSED Ben Shephard turned bright red as Coronation Street ' s Patti Clare revealed Mary Taylor has a secret crush on him live on Good Morning Britain. The presenter , 45, was interviewing actress Patti when she revealed her character has a secret crush on him.

Mary Elspeth Taylor (previously Cole) is the estranged wife of Norris Cole and assistant to Tracy McDonald at Preston' s Petals. Mary had a deeply unhappy childhood, raised by her tyrannical mother Maureen.

There’s a rather bizarre new plot gracing the cobbles and it centres around Mary Taylor, played by Patti Clare.

It hasn’t always been smooth sailing for the Coronation Street character when it comes to love, but it seems there could be a light at the end of the tunnel.

Why? Well because she’s about to fall head over heels in love with Good Morning Britain presenter Ben Shephard of course, in a strange new twist.

And it sounds like Mary’s Ben blanket is just the start of the potential paraphernalia she hopes to collect, with Patti adding: “She could get a chain going of Ben products. But anyway the blanket is a beginning.”

Before carrying a torch for Ben, Mary has been unlucky in love and had a failed relationship with Norris Cole, played by Malcolm Hebden and she’s also been infatuated with Brendan Finch, played by Ted Robbins but later found out he had a wife.

Brendan then accused Mary of stalking him after he wife found out about the romance and branded Mary a “scarlet woman.”

Let’s hope Mary gets her happily ever after with Ben!
