Rob Mallard became the third actor to play the role of Daniel Osbourne in Coronation Street when he joined the soap in 2016.

He has since endured heartbreak onscreen as Ken Barlow's son, when he lost his wife Sinead Tinker, played by Katie McGlynn, when she died from cancer and has been raising their child alone.

Daniel is yet to deal properly with his grief, and Rob said his character is putting on a front for his family and friends, but behind closed doors it's a different story for the widower who has been paying a sex worker to pretend to be his wife.

Despite his apparent emotional instability Daniel isn't set to leave the cobbles any time soon and the actor said of his character's grief: “When Daniel is on the cobbles or with his family, he is acting as though he has found a way to move forward.

“The reality is that behind closed doors he hasn't moved on at all.”

What is the condition Rob Mallard suffers from?

Rob bravely opened up about living with neurological condition known as essential tremors, during an appearance on This Morning in October 2019.

He has a progressive Parkinson's-like disease that causes him to experience the tremors, which he has suffered from since the age of 14.

Coronation Street star Rob Mallard has hinted that Daniel Osbourne could be shifting his attention from Sinead Tinker and on to a new love interest.

The actor spoke about after viewers noticed him shaking: "My solution has been to hide and manage. Because of the job that I’m in, it can have a detrimental effect on my ability to get cast.

"And then it was exposed on TV. I was embarrassed and then angry. But then I started getting messages saying, ‘Me too’.”

Rob shared: "I didn’t have it from birth, but I don’t remember not having it. I was about 14-years-old when I first started to notice it.

“It manifests first in the hands, and then it can spread so I sometimes get in the back of my neck so my head will shake, which is I think what [This Morning] viewers noticed last time.

"It’s a progressive disease, so by the time I’m 50, it could be in my voice box, down my back of the spine, the legs, the whole of the arms….It could be quite debilitating.”
