This Is Us star Ron Cephas Jones and The Outsider actor Jason Bateman have become the latest victims of an awkward awards show mix-up, as an error was made during the broadcast of the fifth and final night of the 2020 Primetime Creative Arts Emmy Awards.

This year's Creative Arts Emmys were held virtually across several nights, with the 72nd Primetime Emmy Awards taking place virtually tonight (September 2020).

Oops, says Emmy: 'This Is Us' actor gets award after mix-up

Oops, says Emmy: 'This Is Us' actor gets award after mix-up LOS ANGELES (AP) — In a virtual Emmys version of the wrong-winner Oscars gaffe, Ron Cephas Jones’ guest actor award for “This Is Us” was announced for another nominee, Jason Bateman. The error occurred during Saturday's online creative arts Emmys, precursor to Sunday's main ceremony and the culmination of a week of events honoring technical and other achievements. Saturday's show on FXX, however, was the only one of the creative arts presentations to be televised, making the error more glaring. In a voice-over announcement, Bateman was declared the winner for his guest appearance on HBO's “The Outsider,” while the screen displayed Jones' name.

But while the winner of the Outstanding Guest Actor in a Drama Series award was being announced during the final Creative Arts Emmys broadcast, there was a rather confusing mistake which saw two different actors announced as the winner simultaneously.

As a voiceover announced The Outsider's Jason Bateman's name, a card declaring Ron Cephas Jones as the winner for his work on This Is Us was displayed at the same time.

So who actually won? It has been confirmed that Cephas Jones is the correct recipient, with the awards broadcast correcting the mistake a few minutes after the confusing moment.

The Wrap reports that a spokesperson for the Emmys issued a statement confirming that an "editing issue" had occurred and that Cephas Jones is definitely the winner, saying: "They announced the correct winner and it was the correct slate, but the voiceover was incorrect".

Everything you need to know about the Emmy Awards 2020

Everything you need to know about the Emmy Awards 2020 The Emmy Awards 2020 is shaping up to be a blockbuster event, but what can you expect from the ceremony in the midst of the coronavirus pandemic?

The Television Academy's Twitter account also confirmed that Cephas Jones has been awarded his second win for his role as William 'Shakespeare' Hill on This Is Us.

As the stars weren't actually in the room for the ceremony we didn't have a repeat of that now infamous 2017 Oscars mistake, which saw the cast and crew of La La Land having to leave the stage after they were mistakenly announced as the winners of Best Picture when the trophy was actually meant to be awarded to Moonlight.

The 2020 Primetime Emmy Awards will host the final virtual ceremony of the year tonight, with awards including Outstanding Comedy Series, Outstanding Drama Series and Lead and Supporting Actor gongs being handed out.

The 2020 Emmy Awards Were A Virtual Delight

The 2020 Emmy Awards Were A Virtual Delight Almost everything about an award show is expected. The half-funny hosts, the sticky envelopes, the touching acceptance speeches, the constant montages. Audiences have come to recognize — and perhaps dread — these longstanding traits, which might explain why ratings have plummetedin recent years. However, on Sunday night, we were given the 2020 Emmy Awards, an evening that not only celebrated the TV series that got us through this wretched year, but also championed diversity, inclusivity and originality.

Winners of the 2020 Creative Emmys include Queer Eye, which has been named Outstanding Structured Reality Program, Saturday Night Live, which has picked up Outstanding Variety Sketch Series, and Rick and Morty, which has won Outstanding Animated Program.

The Mandalorian has picked up seven awards, including Outstanding Music Composition for a Series (Original Dramatic Score) and Outstanding Special Visual Effects. Watchmen has also scored seven including Outstanding Fantasy/Sci-Fi Costumes and Outstanding Sound Editing for a Limited Series, Movie, or Special.

Bubble hockey champions: Tampa Bay Lightning win Stanley Cup .
EDMONTON, Alberta (AP) — The joyful yells from the bench could be heard in the empty arena in the final seconds and the roar from players when Commissioner Gary Bettman called for Steven Stamkos to accept the Stanley Cup echoed even louder. The triumph of winning the NHL championship in a bubble was certainly no less sweet for the Tampa Bay Lightning. Brayden Point scored his playoff-best 14th goal and the Lightning beat the Dallas Stars 2-0 in Game 6 on Monday night to finish off the most unusual NHL postseason in history, staged nearly entirely in quarantine because of the pandemic.
