Ginsburg is now one of three women on the nine-member Supreme Court, and not even her most dogged ideological enemies would question her right That’ s not entirely a bad thing. “ On the Basis of Sex ” does a brisk, coherent job of articulating what Ginsburg accomplished and why it mattered

The accomplishments of RBG , as she has become known, are far more stirring and substantial than the film “ On the Basis of Sex ,” a formulaic biopic that The drama begins at Harvard Law School, whose crusty dean (Sam Waterston, as Kiki’ s recurring nemesis) can barely abide women among his students.

This is not the woman we see in On the Basis of Sex , and rightly so. As Ginsburg herself admits in the RBG documentary, also released this The popular cult of RBG seems misguided: not because we shouldn’t admire Ruth Bader Ginsburg , but because we want to admire her for the wrong reasons.

' On the Basis of Sex ' review: Ruth Bader Ginsburg movie dutifully make its case, with Felicity Jones and Armie Hammer as RBG and her husband Marty.

The film companies said they would donate their net proceeds from the re-release to the American Civil Liberties Union Foundation is support of their Women's Rights Project, which was co-founded by Ginsburg in 1972.

Ginsburg, a stalwart liberal and feminist icon, died on Friday at age 87, prompting makeshift memorials around the country and upending November elections around the political battle over her successor.

"These films highlight only a small portion of her legacy to screen, but her vast impact on our country goes far beyond them. We hope that moviegoers are re-inspired by her passion, her courage and take that back into the world," Focus Features and Magnolia Pictures said in a joint statement.

Success of Ginsburg film inspires CNN look at John Lewis

Success of Ginsburg film inspires CNN look at John Lewis NEW YORK (AP) — Indirectly, the late Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg inspired CNN Films' new documentary on the life of civil rights icon Rep. John Lewis. The unexpected commercial success of the “RBG” film in theaters two years ago had CNN looking for another contemporary leader whose life could be seen in historical terms. “We knew there was something about the fact that people thought they knew RBG, but our film revealed there was a lot more to know,” said Amy Entelis, head of CNN Films. “We wanted to figure out if there was anyone else like that, and we landed on John Lewis.

Bader Ginsburg is, in the most tasteful way possible, a revolutionary figure. But rather than attempt to convey all or, indeed, any of this in the film’ s craft A winsome Felicity Jones stars as Ginsburg over a period that starts with her entry into Harvard Law School and ends in the court of appeal with her

Ginsburg ’ s life has been compelling enough for two films this year, but it’ s likely that the first, less flashy effort will go down as the more vital. On the Basis of Sex is a solid, often impassioned film, but too often its worst instincts take over, and cliches stack up faster than legal documents.

"On the Basis of Sex," starred Felicity Jones in the story of Ginsburg's early career and her personal and legal struggles for equal rights.
