Casualty has cleared up fan confusion over the future of Connie Beauchamp on the medical drama after star Amanda Mealing shared a mysterious Instagram post.

Amanda, who has played Clinical Lead Connie since 2004 and has had stints in both Casualty and its sister show Holby City, shared a photo of a rainbow over some fields and captioned the post: "Never in my life have I sat under an entire rainbow! Going to miss this place. #Wales".

As Casualty is filmed in Wales, her post led many fans to speculate that her saying she would "miss this place" was a hint that she is leaving the area – and therefore potentially the show.

"Hope this doesn't mean you are leaving Casualty," one follower wrote, while another commented, "You'd better not have left Casualty, 2020 will just collapse altogether".

However Casualty has confirmed to Digital Spy that there are no plans for Amanda or Connie to leave and that "it's all just fan speculation".

Casualty is currently on a break from our screens due to the pause in filming caused by the COVID-19 pandemic but filming on the show resumed earlier this month, with work commencing on a special episode which will shine a light on the work of the hospital's Emergency Department staff during the pandemic.

Charlie Fairhead (Derek Thompson) will also be struggling as he is devastated by the impact of the virus on local care homes, while paramedic Lev Malinovsky (Uriel Emil) decides to temporarily move out of his family home to protect his vulnerable young son.

The episode, named 'Code Orange', was postponed after careful consideration but fans will now have the chance to see the episode, which shows the Emergency Department going into lockdown following a chemical attack.
