Marvel fans are still waiting patiently for Phase 4 of the MCU to start after the latest Black Widow delay, giving them more time to revisit past movies instead.

And if you can guarantee one thing from a rewatch, it's that there will be a new theory or fresh take on major moments in those movies in an attempt to solve any lingering questions you may have.

Marvel's Falcon and the Winter Soldier release date delay confirmed by Disney+

Enter Avengers: Infinity War and its devastating opening sequence.

In case you needed reminding, the movie starts in the aftermath of an attack by Thanos and the Black Order on what remains of the Asgardian race. Half of them are dead and Thor, Loki and Heimdall have taken a severe beating.

As Thanos tortures Thor to get Loki to hand over the Tesseract, Hulk attacks Thanos, who ends up being more than a match for Hulk. Heimdall then saves Hulk's life by summoning the Bifrost Bridge, which teleports Hulk to Earth.

But why did Heimdall decide to save Hulk and not his old friends Thor or Loki (since the trickster was redeemed by this time)?

A new theory by Reddit user BookerTea3 suggests that Hulk was the only choice that Heimdall could make in that situation.

WandaVision Easter eggs tie into Captain Marvel 2 and the wider MCU

Assuming that Loki had caused too much damage previously to be trusted to save the day, the theory argues that if Heimdall had saved Thor, he would never have forgiven him for making Thor abandon his people when they needed him most:

"If Heimdall had sent Thor away when there is any chance of him saving another Asgardian, Thor would have felt that dishonour of leaving his brother, his friend, his countrymen especially as he and Heimdall are the only sworn protectors of Asgard left.

"As an Asgardian, they do not run when there is any chance they could have saved their citizens. If Thor died in battle, he would have gone to Valhalla, Asgardian warriors do not run for fear of their life."

Of course, Heimdall could have chosen not to save anyone and it might have stopped him being killed. However, he's a good guy, so he chose to save Hulk because he's an Avenger and a potential saviour for Earth.

The Big Bang Theory star explains thoughts on Raj’s ending

The Big Bang Theory star explains thoughts on Raj’s ending Romantic Raj never found his true love and some fans weren't impressed. The Big Bang Theory came to an end in May 2019 after 12 years of science-fuelled humour and, on the whole, managed to find satisfying conclusions for its beloved characters.

"As Bruce Banner, he is a mortal, an academic and also, one of Earth's Heroes. He fits the bill," the theory states.

"Heimdall doesn't really see Thor as an Avenger, he sees him as a member of the Royal Family sworn to protect Asgard. Let Thor live or die among his people. Let Hulk do the same with his people."

It certainly tracks with what we know of the characters and you could also argue that while Hulk/Bruce could survive the crash to Earth, Thor couldn't at that time because of his torture at the hands of Thanos.

What's more, you could assume that Heimdall knew that Thor would be able to survive for a time in space before the Guardians came along to pick him up, and he might have seen the Guardians on their way (since he can see across great distances).

However, it doesn't exactly solve why Heimdall didn't just decide to teleport Thanos away to leave Thor and Loki to fight another day.

The answer to that though is probably just that it wasn't in the script.

Avengers: Infinity War and almost every other MCU movie is available to watch on Disney+.
