Entertainment Chris Pratt is apparently the worst Chris, but the response to that Twitter poll is more telling

Katherine Schwarzenegger and one-month-old daughter Lyla on stroll Katherine Schwarzenegger, 30, welcomed her first child, daughter Lyla, with husband Chris Pratt, 41, just last month. And the 30-year-old author looked every bit the doting mother as she headed out on a solo stroll with her newborn on Wednesday afternoon.Katherine carried her six-week-old daughter in a leopard print sling and kept a yellow blanket over her head to shield her from the blazing sun.

Twitter is sort of the Wild West of the Internet. Sure, lots of bad stuff happens on other social-media platforms, but there's a lawlessness to Twitter – founded in anonymity – that makes it a special kind of beast.

It may exist online, but the consequences of the things that happen on social media are all too real. Just ask any number of people who have been doxxed or received death threats; but also people who have achieved fame and recognition, like Nathan Apodaca, aka the Ocean Spray/Fleetwood Mac guy.

The most recent calamity to emerge from Twitter into the real world is the battle of the Chrises: a poll started by Amy Berg, a writer for The Alienist, who asked her followers which famous Chris they'd get rid of – Hemsworth, Pratt, Pine or Evans. The results were overwhelming: Chris Pratt was the one to go.

Now, what is essentially a popular meme gag that, sure, isn't the nicest (but let's be real, far meaner things have happened on Twitter) has turned into a public image nightmare, to which other Marvel stars have responded. To say it feels like a dramatic overreaction is entirely accurate.

Co-stars Mark Ruffalo, Zoe Saldana and Robert Downey Jr, along with filmmaker James Gunn, and others, have all come out in 'defence' of Pratt. In particular, Ruffalo's and Downey's comments stick with us the most.

Work on the latest film in the dinosaur franchise will now pause for two weeks. Director Colin Trevorrow confirmed the news on Twitter on Wednesday evening. Ruffalo wrote: "You all, @prattprattpratt is as solid a man there is. I know him personally, and instead of casting aspersions, look at how he lives his life. He is just not overtly political as a rule. This is a distraction. Let’s keep our eyes on the prize, friends. We are so close now."

Ruffalo isn't wholly wrong, this is a huge distraction from the up-and-coming American election, and for some – like your American writer here – the ramifications of the election are more than just philosophical. They speak to the very core of our humanity and morals as people.

In a time when politics is literally life or death, choosing to be not overtly political or, indeed, totally silent on the matter, is inherently read as being on the side that holds the power. (To paraphrase both Desmond Tutu and Elie Wiesel.)

Meanwhile, Downey said Pratt was a "real Christian" and while we could unpack what that actually means for centuries, it's certainly not as simple as that. (We would wager a guess that every Christian across the entire spectrum of belief, would call themselves 'real').

The inherent problem with the arguments in favour of Pratt is that Pratt himself is a flashpoint figure. Hence the poll results, one would assume. He reportedly attends a church that promoted conversion therapy for LGBTQ+ people (though he denied his church is involved in such practices).

Around 2011, the church disavowed conversion therapy, but it's a stench that Pratt hasn't been able to wash off from his goofball, good-guy image. So when it was announced that Marvel actors were assembling (sorry) to encourage people to vote for Joe Biden and Pratt's name wasn't on the list of stars attending, speculation ran rampant.

The most prominent accusation was that he was silently and secretly a Trump supporter (or at the very least, he knows his fans are and is afraid of losing them). It's no secret that his wife is Katherine Schwarzenegger – daughter of former Republican governor and Terminator, Arnold – and though Republicans including Arnie have begun turning away from Trump, there is often solidarity amongst party members (especially where "religious values" are concerned).

Why Chris Pratt Is Currently The Internet's Least Favourite Chris

Why Chris Pratt Is Currently The Internet's Least Favourite Chris A debate about the Four Chrises has left most in agreement that Pratt - a hunter and believed Trump supporter - is the worst Chris.Tweeting photos of each of the Chrises, Amy Berg asked which of the Chrises had to go. Quickly, Pratt's name started trending because most people agree he should - hypothetically - leave the famous Chris club.

Compounded with Pratt's proximity to what appears to be an, at best, conservative religious group (and at worst a bigoted one), his political associations has made him both an easy target, but also perhaps someone worthy of challenging in a real way.

There's another side to the coin of this zealous defence of Pratt. Where were these people when Captain Marvel star Brie Larson was, and continues to be, harassed on social media for years both before and after taking on the role of Carol Danvers?

Women in superhero movies have shouldered the brunt of misogynistic comments for a long time. Women of colour have it twice over, as the harassment and abuse of Kelly Marie Tran proves.

To a certain extent, Brie and Tran received the support of their co-stars; everyone remembers the standing ovation Tran received during the Star Wars celebration, which was both moving and way too little, way too late. But we can't recall the same kind of vehement defending of their personal character as Chris Pratt is getting from his co-stars right now.

Yes, the outpouring of support for Chris that comes from his co-stars could be because he is truthfully a really good guy who denounces (in his own "not overtly political" way) racism, homophobia, and sexism. We hope so!

Stars Defend Chris Pratt After Brutal ‘Hollywood Chris’ Ranking Goes Viral: 'Being Mean Is So Yesterday'

Stars Defend Chris Pratt After Brutal ‘Hollywood Chris’ Ranking Goes Viral: 'Being Mean Is So Yesterday' Robert Downey Jr, Mark Ruffalo and Katherine Schwarzenegger have all jumped to the defence of Chris Pratt after the actor lost out in a poll of the ‘best Chrises’ in Hollywood. The famous friends and family of the Guardians Of The Galaxy star have spoken out after he lost out to Chris Hemsworth, Chris Pine and Chris Evans in the viral Twitter poll. It all started on Saturday when filmmaker Amy Berg posted a tweet that read “One has to go,” alongside photos of the various Chrises in question. One has to go. pic.twitter.

But it's hard not to feel cynical. If The Boys has taught us anything it's that our heroes are seldom as good as we want them to be.
