Entertainment Avengers: Endgame's final battle looked even more epic in original concept art

Avengers: Endgame brought 10 years of Marvel adventures to a close by ending Phases 1-3 and its final battle was suitably massive, uniting all the surviving heroes for one last huge fight against Thanos and his army.

The heroes who had lived through Thanos' snap at the end of Avengers: Infinity War were joined by those who had been snapped away by the villain, and the gang joined forces in a battle that saw Valkyrie (Tessa Thompson) lead the charge on her winged horse and Captain America (Chris Evans) wielding Thor's (Chris Hemsworth) famous hammer Mjölnir.

And some newly revealed concept art has offered a fresh perspective on the battle, offering an alternative look at the fight scenes.

Production designer Ryan Lang has shared some of his original concept art designs for the battle on Instagram in the form of mannequins, a sketch and some paintings and it looks even more epic, with the main characters all fighting closely alongside one another.

There are also plenty of parallels between the art and the finished scene in the movie, suggesting that not a huge amount changed in the script to screen process when it came to character fates.

Several characters who were snapped away at the end of Infinity War are back to fight here, including Spider-Man (Tom Holland), Doctor Strange (Benedict Cumberbatch), Scarlet Witch (Elizabeth Olsen) and the Winter Soldier (Sebastian Stan), just as they were in the movie, suggesting that this had been a long-term plan.

There are also two prominent absences in the form of Black Widow (Scarlett Johansson) and Vision (Paul Bettany), both of whom were killed separately from the snap, indicating that there was never a plan to resurrect them for this fight.

Since Endgame was released in 2019 we have been treated to several incredible examples of original concept art by designers who worked on the film.

One artist's work revealed that Captain America was originally shown to be unsure of whether he could pick up Mjölnir, while another showed that Thanos was due to command an enormous colony of giant space bats.

Thanos played such a major role in the final Avengers movies that it might be hard to imagine him played by anyone other than Josh Brolin but the actor recently revealed that if his character hadn't had so many heroes to battle, he might not have taken the role.

"I loved that it was all [of them]," he said. "The fact that it was all the Avengers against this one guy."
