'Songbird': Social media savages trailer for Michael Bay-produced pandemic thriller
Watch: Trailer for pandemic thriller Songbird Producer Michael Bay and the team behind new pandemic thriller Songbird have been urged to “read the room” after the first trailer for the film was unveiled online. The movie is set several years in the future, with the mutated virus COVID-23 having wiped out huge chunks of the world’s population and quarantine strictly enforced by the military. Read more: Are disaster movie fans better placed to face pandemic?It follows a couple played by Sofia Carson and KJ Apa, who have fallen in love despite having never met in person as a result of the years of enforced distancing.

In what could prove to be a very ill-judged movie (if it isn't already), Songbird is set in 2024 when the COVID-19 virus has mutated into much deadlier strain of COVID-23 and the worldwide death toll is more than 110 million.
The entire world is into its fourth year of lockdown when Nico (Apa) – a courier who has COVID immunity – finds love with Sara (Carson), but the couple have never met as a result of the lockdown.

Before resuming filming of Riverdale for season 5 which arrives in 2021 on Netflix, KJ Apa found a little time after the (1st ) confinement to shoot a brand new movie. And we warn you right away, it's not happy ... Songbird plunges us into 2024 when the Covid-19 pandemic has mutated and caused hundreds of millions of deaths. Check out the depressing and NOT AT ALL reassuring trailer.
You can see the first teaser for the movie above ahead of the full trailer arriving later today (October 29).
"It's a dystopian, scary world, but it's a romantic movie about two people who want to be together, but they can't," director Adam Mason told. "It's Romeo and Juliet, but they're separated by her front door and by the virus."
Produced by Michael Bay, Songbird likely isn't just about the romance though as even the brief teaser hints at the fact that the global situation has led some people to act differently to how they would before.
"Sometimes we have to do things we don't want to survive," Demi Moore's character is seen telling an unknown person, so we can expect Songbird to deliver on the usual thriller tropes for pandemic movies.

A separate teaser revealed by Carson focused more on the romance side of the movie, with Sara telling Nico to "say goodbye to me".

The movie also stars Bradley Whitford, Paul Walter Hauser, Craig Robinson, Peter Stormare and Alexandra Daddario, and it was filmed in July under strict safety measures in Los Angeles.
Songbird doesn't yet have a release date.

Michael Bay to direct Jake Gyllenhaal in new action-thriller .
The movie is said to be akin to iconic '90s action thrillers Speed and Bad BoysThe Transformers director is reportedly fast-tracking the project, with plans to start shooting in January. Although he’s currently in talks with other actors, no one else has been cast yet. The script, written by Chris Fedak and based on the Danish film Ambulancen, has been highly coveted for years, but never been able to lock down a director – until Bay. While plot details are shrouded in secrecy, Deadline reports that we can expect the film to be in the vein of iconic '90s action thrillers like Speed and Bay’s own debut feature Bad Boys.
