She made her debut on Strictly Come Dancing last weekend.

But Jacqui Smith revealed she is in 'agony' during rehearsals for her forthcoming Samba performance with professional dance partner, Anton Du Beke, on Friday.

The former Home Secretary, 57, said the intense training has taken its toll on her knees and feet, but she is excited hopefully climb up the leaderboard after being placed bottom last week.

She said during an interview on Good Morning Britain: 'There has been quite a lot of bouncing, the knees are suffering, my feet are in agony.

Strictly professional, Gorka Marquez, 30, and EastEnders star Maisie Smith, 19, trailed closely behind with a score of 24 points, thanks to their energy-filled Samba.

Jacqui hopes to follow in their footsteps with a zestful dance routine to the song, Help Yourself, by Sir Tom Jones.

The former Home Secretary is also relying on the public vote to see her through to next week's show.

She added: 'I'm going to need to fall on the British public to defend me and keep me in, please, for another week, because I'm absolutely loving it.'
