Strictly Come Dancing’s head judge Shirley Ballas has given a warning to contestant Maisie Smith after emerging as this year’s early favourite. The EastEnders star and her partner Gorka Marquez have been marked out as ones to watch with bookies and viewers alike, after Maisie won last year’s Strictly Children In Need special. However, Shirley has told Maisie that she should not think that having previous experience on the BBC ballroom show will count for anything in this year’s competition.

Jacqui Smith has become the first celebrity booted from ‘Strictly Come Dancing’.
© Bang Showbiz Jacqui Smith and Anton Du Beke The 57-year-old former politician - who was the first female Home Secretary - lost out on a place in a third week of the BBC Latin and ballroom dance competition during Sunday’s (01.11.20) results show, as she became the first contestant voted out of the series.
Jacqui and her partner, Anton Du Beke, found themselves in the dreaded dance-off against ‘Made in Chelsea’ star Jamie Laing and Karen Hauer, but the three judges - Craig Revel Horwood, Shirley Ballas, and Motsi Mabuse - all voted to save Jamie, meaning Jacqui was sent home.

Speaking after the result, Jacqui said: “I’ve had the greatest adventure it’s possible to imagine. I’m just sorry I can’t continue it with this man, who has been absolutely fantastic and gorgeous to work with. But I don’t feel too much shame losing to these guys, because they are a fantastic bunch of dancers. They really are. I’ll be watching you and supporting you!”

4. He was a runner on The Shining
According to an anecdote recounted by his half-brother Tony on BBC Radio 3, Simon got his first taste of Hollywood when he worked as a runner on director Stanley Kubrick’s 1980 horror film ‘The Shining’, which was filmed on Elstree Studios and starred Jack Nicholson as writer Jack Torrence, who descends into madness whilst working as the caretaker of a closed hotel. In one famous scene, Jack breaks through a door with an axe, shouting: “Here’s Johnny!” and it was a young Simon’s job to polish that axe. Tony said: “It was only a stone's throw away from where we grew up. I well remember him saying he used to clean Jack Nicholson's axe in between takes for the most famous scenes. He took great pride in it, you could see your face in it, it was so shiny.”

5. Simon has an unusual allergy
It might seem like nothing could hurt Simon Cowell with his tough exterior but in fact Mr Cowell is actually allergic to lamb’s wool. That explains the expensive cashmere sweaters!

Simon’s father Eric was a record executive at EMI, after many initial failings in his early career, After an early career which saw Simon unable to settle in any one job, his dad stepped in and got him a job in EMI’s mailroom. Simon eventually got out of the mailroom and would go on to learn the skills he needed to form his own record label in 1983.

Simon starts his day in the same way each morning, by having breakfast and watching his favourite Hanna-Barbera cartoons, such as ‘The Flintstones’ and ‘The Jetsons’. Strictly Come Dancing featured a surprise return from a former contestant on tonight's show (October 31), as Jacqui Smith received a visit from famed 2016 competitor Ed Balls. While former Home Secretary Jacqui was rehearsing for her Samba with her professional dance partner Anton du Beke
She added: “He’s an absolute joy to be with. I’m so pleased and proud to have spent this time with him. And to everybody on the programme - I mean, I don’t think people realise just how brilliant the team is that puts this programme together. And if ever we needed ‘Strictly’, we need it now. So thank you so much.”
Jacqui and Anton scored just 12 points out of 30 on Saturday (31.10.20) when they took to the dance floor with their Samba routine, placing them at the bottom of the leaderboard.
As last week’s show saw no stars evicted, the judges score from last week was added to this week’s, but Jacqui’s disappointing score of 13 for last week meant she didn’t manage to save herself from the dance-off.
The remaining 11 couples will return next weekend, where ‘Strictly’ will be celebrating a special movie-themed week.
