Chrissy Teigen and John Legend have appeared in their first, joint, televised interview since the loss of their baby boy, Jack.

Last month, the couple confirmed the pre-term death of their third child at 20 weeks following a series of severe complications during the model's pregnancy.

In the weeks that followed, Teigen wrote a personal essay about grief and has been seen out publicly with her husband on a handful of occasions, including joining Legend on stage in Philadelphia where he was performing in support of the Joe Biden and Kamala Harris the night before the US presidential election.

On Tuesday, the couple appeared on Good Morning America to discuss grief and the loss of their third child.

'I definitely give myself permission to feel complete and utter grief. Every day is so different, so when people ask me how I’m doing, I always say, "I’m okay, today",' Teigen noted in the interview.

During their time in hospital, the couple shared photographs on social media, which Legend explained as a way of honouring the memory of Jack and raising awareness of pregnancy loss for those in similar situations and who are 'hurting'.

'[Chrissy] felt like really, that one of the ways we would carry on Jack’s memory was taking pictures of that moment. I was worried, I was like, “I don’t want to like commemorate this pain",' said the singer.

'I didn't know that we could experience this grief and also share it, but when we did, it really meant so much to so many people and it was such a powerful experience for me to learn that,' he noted. 'And I'm just grateful that my wife was courageous enough to do it.'

The couple also alluded to apparent criticism from certain members of the public for sharing such a personal moment on social media.

However, Teigen stated the photos weren't for everyone, rather those who needed them.

'I don't care if you were offended or disgusted,' she stated. 'I understand it can be that way for people. It's designed for the people that were hurting. And John was very uncomfortable taking them.'

Since Jack's death, Teigen said she and Legend have received thousands of letters from fans which she describes as 'incredible'.

'Obviously it's so painful to go through something like this as a woman, something that was inside your body that you were nurturing and taking care of,' she said, adding, 'but, obviously, there's a father involved. And the support for the both of us has just been so beautiful, so incredible'.

Over the last month, the couple have honoured their late son's memory and come together in times of grief to take part in a blood drive, have a tattoo and witnessed sweet gestures from their loved ones, most recently from their daughter, Luna.

During the interview, the pair also revealed that they've teamed up with Ronald McDonald House Charities to help support the families of sick and injured children.

Teigen and Legend's interview came hours before The New York Times published an essay written by Meghan Markle in which she reveals she had a miscarriage in July.

‘I knew, as I clutched my firstborn child, that I was losing my second,’ she writes.
