Entertainment Ruth Jones devastates fans as she says there 'are no plans for more Gavin & Stacey' with James Corden

Ruth Jones has shut down the idea of herself and James Corden writing any more episodes of Gavin & Stacey after making a shock return for a Christmas special last year.

On Friday, the Welsh actress, 54, who plays Nessa in the comedy, told This Morning’s Eamonn Holmes, 60, and Ruth Langsford, also 60, that there aren't any plans to give fans the answer to 2019’s major cliffhanger.

The special saw up to 18 million people tune in to see Nessa go down on one knee to pop the question to Smithy, who is played by her co-writer, James, 42.

While fans are desperate to see the future for Nessa and Smithy, Ruth confirmed today that there "aren't any plans to write more Gavin & Stacey."

She then responded with: "There aren't any plans to write anything. Obviously James is in America, I'm in Wales. I'm sorry to not give you any good news.”

The best-selling author continued: “I think the joy of the Christmas special that it ended in such a way that if we never go back to Barry we will always wonder what happened.

"I think there's something juicy about that. But we will always wonder, did Smithy say yes, did they get married. I quite like leaving it hanging."

While watching the daytime show today, many devastated fans waded in to express their disappointment over Ruth’s comments.

Oscar Hartland, who plays Nessa and Smithy's son Neil, recently said he would say yes to a return when he appeared on Good Morning Britain.
