'The Masked Singer': Swan's celebrity identity revealed in latest vote Martine McCutcheon has been unmasked as Swan in The Masked Singer. The former EastEnder was the third contestant to be revealed this series after battling it out against fan favourite Sausage in the sing off. Love Actually star McCutcheon said: “There was a prime minister and two presidents - the president, obviously we had in Love Actually and then I got to be Liza Minnelli’s wedding guest, I was her bridesmaid, and sat next to me was Donald Trump, make of that what you will.

So the secret’s out of the bag, Martine...

It’s a relief! My loved ones kept asking what I’d been up to and I had to keep saying, “I’m just filming a quiz show today.” They kept saying, “another one?!” It’s one of the hardest things I’ve had to keep secret.

Did any of your celebrity friends get in touch?

Alan Carr said, “Now I know where you’ve been, you sly fox – or should I say swan!” And Louise Redknapp, who I went to school with, put it on Twitter and then asked me. I felt so bad as I was just not responding.

Why did you want to take part?

Because my son is such a massive fan of the show, it was time for me to be Rafferty’s little hero for five minutes. I go to work and feel guilty for not being with him sometimes, so I might as well go and do a job that he’s going to love.

You shared an adorable video clip of his reaction…

You’re surely a cool mum in his eyes now?

I’ve got to make the most of it while it lasts! It was funny because the swan head weighed a ton so they had to come and readjust it. We had to put a big marquee up in the garden and Rafferty said, “Mummy, are they filming The Great British Bake Off?” I told him, “Yeah, mummy’s auditioning for it!”

Is Rafferty musical like you and your husband, Jack?

He loves music and singing. He wanted a little white keyboard for Christmas, so I think he’ll be like his dad in the making of music. He’s got a real natural knack and picks it up quite quickly.

Was Jack equally proud?

When I’ve doubted myself and lost my mojo a bit over the years, he’s the one who’s said, “Don’t forget who you are and what makes you tick. If you want to go for it, go for it. You’ve got me, you’ve got a support network, go for it.” Sometimes the only person stopping you is yourself. The Masked Singer was a real “feel the fear and do it anyway” moment. I feel like I broke through something.

Martine McCutcheon needed PHYSIO over heavy The Masked Singer costume

Martine McCutcheon needed PHYSIO over heavy The Masked Singer costume The former EastEnders, 44, was the latest star to be unmasked on Saturday's episode of the hit ITV show after judge Jonathan Ross correctly guessed her identify. And now Martine has revealed that she needed physiotherapy after her 'heavy' Swan costume made her feel claustrophobic and left her 'hardly breathing' due to her face being squashed in a 'tight boxing helmet'.

Are you hoping this might kickstart your music career again?

I didn’t go on the show thinking, “This could spark more stuff.” I did it from a place of, “Do I still love this?” Your priorities change as you become older and you become a mother and a wife, and work’s not always the be-all and end-all any more. But if it’s in your DNA, it doesn’t ever really leave you. The Masked Singer gave me back my confidence, my spark and I fell a bit in love with it again.

Was it nice to do something for yourself?

When you’ve given birth to somebody and they’re literally a part of you, it’s natural that they have that part of you forever. But it’s also natural that you need to be you. And it’s good for them to see mummy doing what she does. The reaction that Rafferty’s given me was a reinforcement that it’s OK to enjoy your career, while still being a wonderful mum.

So what’s next?

I’ve been recording some stuff – we’ve got a recording studio where we live at home – and I’ve been asked to do a TV presenting role.

Do you have a dream job?

I’m 44 and feel so lucky as I’ve managed to do everything from theatre to film, soap to dramas, and a pop career. Now it’s about going where I feel in my heart. I’d love to do more presenting because I haven’t done much of that and I like to try things I’ve never done before.

What’s your career highlight that everyone stops you to talk about?

Hollyoaks: Toby makes a concerning discovery

Hollyoaks: Toby makes a concerning discovery Pedro Pascal has invited fans to call Texas Senator Ted Cruz and give him a piece of their mind after he savaged the actor's performance in the Wonder Woman sequel.

Love Actually. Because it’s shown every Christmas, it’s got a timeless element to it that I’m forever grateful for. None of us knew that it would be this ongoing success that got bigger and bigger every year. I’m really proud I’m part of it.

Are you still in touch with any of the cast?

I’ve stayed in touch with Bill Nighy over the years. We did a radio play together and we also went and supported Hugh Grant when he won an achievement award. Hugh invited us to go along. So I’ve mainly stayed in touch with Bill and Hugh, and obviously the reunion [for Comic Relief in 2017] was lovely.

When you were unveiled, Twitter went mad saying you don’t age. What’s your secret?

Ah, how lovely, I hadn’t seen that! I don’t think there’s such a thing as a secret. But the one thing I know that works for everybody is just having confidence in yourself, having a good state of mind, and learning to love yourself.

Do you think that comes with age?

You’re less hard on yourself as the years go by, and you accept what you are and what you’re not. With that comes a sense of relief. You’re just more confident in your skin. That’s a lovely thing about getting older. You know yourself enough to not care about what other people think.

You lost your friend Barbara Windsor last month. What’s your favourite memory of her?

I met Barbara when I was 10 years old. We worked together on my first ever TV show and I fell a bit in love with her from the moment I met her. Eight years later when I got the part in EastEnders, she remembered me and said, “Haven’t you grown up into a fine young lady.” I couldn’t believe it, but that was Barbara all over. She was kind, funny, naughty and the person whose dressing room I’d always go to if I needed a little cry. She was my mentor, my friend, and such an amazing person.
