The Bill was a prime-time TV show first broadcast on ITV in August 1983.

It followed the lives of police officers from Sun Hill Police Station and ran until it was axed in August 2010.

Trudie Goodwin - WPC June Ackland

Trudie played WPC June Ackland for nearly 25 years and was one of most recognised faces in the soap.

The 69-year-old appeared on a number of game shows including The Weakest Link and Countdown.

Their youngest, Elly, grew up to become an international pop star as part of electro duo La Roux.

Ke vin Lloyd - DC Alfred ‘Tosh’ Lines

Kevin played dad-of-five Detective Constable Tosh Lines in the show but his life was marred by tragedy as he battled alcoholism for many years.

He was on the show for 18 years until he was sacked in 1998 after turning up to the set and struggling to say his lines.

The actor checked himself to a residential rehab clinic i n a bid to get sober, but left the facility to go on a deadly drinking binge.

Kevin died aged 49 just a week after filming his final scenes for The Bill, and Tosh continued to appear on screen for a month after his death.

Jeff Stewart - PC Reg Hollis

Jeff, 65, played the role of PC Reg Hollis for 24 years before being thrown off the show.

He sadly spiralled after producers s aid his contract would not be renewed.

Jeff went on to win best actor at the Manhattan Film Festival.

He has stayed out of the spotlight ever since.

Chris Ellison - DCI Frank Burnside

Chris, 74, played tough cop Frank from 1984 until 2000.

His character landed a spin-off show, Burnside, which ran for one series of six episodes.

Chris has appeared in EastEnders, Judge John Deed, New Tricks, and Come Dine With Me.

In 2015, he was a housemate in the Celebrity Big Brother house before being the second to be evicted.

Speaking to Emma Willis at the time, he explained: “I just got fed up with it. It’s just so mad in there; I thought I was losing my sanity. The crazy arguments and shouting and screaming, it got a bit boring. But I did my best.”

Eric, now 80, was on the prime-time show for 20 years.

After leaving the show, he suffered a family tragedy as his two-month-old grandson Charlie Smith was killed in the 2004 Boxing Day tsunami in Sri Lanka.

The dad-of-three continued acting and went on to star in Oscar-winning film Stutterer, and war film Dunkirk.

He has also appeared in EastEnders, Casualty, and starred in 2020 short film Reconnected.

Graham Cole - PC Tony Stamp

Graham joined the cast as PC Stamp in 1984 and stayed until 2009.

He has landed roles in shows such as Law & Order: UK and indulged his long love of singing with annual panto appearances.

In 2010, he was awarded an OBE for his extensive charitable work over many years.

Graham went on to star in gangster-horror film Evil Never Dies, Doctors, Holby City, and in 2020 he appeared in romantic-drama film 23 Walks.

He has been married for 38 years, and has two children.

Mark Wingett - DC Jim Carver

Mark, 60, appeared on the show from the 1980s up until 2005.

He then went on to appear in EastEnders as the father of Joe Swash’s character Mickey Miller.

The actor also appeared on Heartbeat and drama Missing.

In 2018, Wingett recorded a two-part interview for The Bill Podcast celebrating his life and career.

He appeared on ITV drama Vera, and in 2020 appeared in horror film Doll House.

Kim Tiddy - PC Honey Harmony

Kim, 43, played PC Harmony for five years before her character was killed off.

She went on to join Hollyoaks as Heidi Costello, but left the soap in 2011 after her character was murdered once again.

Kim also went on to appear in soap Doctors in 2016, film Winterlog, Moreland's Firm, and this year is starring in Synced which will be released in June.

Scott Maslen - Sgt Phil Hunter

Scott, 49, played ladies' man Phil for five years, clocking up 240 episodes of The Bill before transferring to EastEnders as Jack Branning.

BBC bosses appeared to make a nod to his past in The Bill when creating his character, making Jack a former copper with a murky past.

He remains a regular on the soap, taking a swift break in 2010 for an appearance on Strictly Come Dancing, and Celebrity MasterChef.
